Definitive Audiophile pressings

Friday Music kinda sucks except for the few Kevin Gray pressings they did. Overpriced and not audiophile
I kind of agree - the pressings are decent but nothing exceptional! When I got the Chic Organization 1977-1979 boxset, I realised that my Chic Friday Music pressings were average! The pressings in the boxset were all so much better in comparison!

I wouldn't pick up a Friday Music pressing ever again likely, but it's great to know there are a few exceptions - the Kevin Gray pressings Friday Music did!

I have a question on two pressings I want to know more on before I decide whether it's worth getting!

I have a 2012 pressing of Nicolas Jaar's Space Is Only Noise and it sounds pretty good, but it looks like this 2021 reissue which is 45RPM sounds much better! Does anyone have this new reissue of Space Is Only Noise, and if so, does it sound exceptional?

And the other question I have is, is the 2019 pressing of Stereolab's Dots and Loops that great sounding? The reviews on Discogs are so strong for it, and I'm not going to purchase it yet, but would like to get some feedback on here for those who do have that 2019 pressing (I think all editions of that 2019 reissue came with a bonus disc too with demos/alternate versions)!

Of the Stereolab reissues, I have Transient Random-Noise Bursts, Mars Audiac Quintet, Emperor Tomato Ketchup, and Dots & Loops, and they are phenomenal.

And VERY sexy.

AGREED! I have the recent reissues of Refried Ectoplasm, Emperor Tomato Ketchup, Dots and Loops and Margerine Eclipse, and they sound very very very good.

I have both the 2021 Jaar and 2019 Dots & Loops the Jaar sounds good but it’s probably not worth the upcharge for the 45RPM if you already own the 2012 pressing. It sounds good but not spectacular.

The 2019 Dots & Loops is definitely worth picking up. It’s sounds fantastic (as do al the recent Stereolab reissues).

Awesome, thanks for the feedback on the Nicolas Jaar! I might still get it because it will be an upgrade but it’s good to know it’s a good pressing, but not on the same level as the 2019 Dots and Loops pressing! Feels like I won’t miss out if I don’t get a copy of the 2021 Space Is Only Noise pressing! 😌

Also, I had to get a replacement on my copy due to right channel static running through most of Side A. My 2nd copy was free of the defect but for music as quiet at this it was quite distracting.

That’s also good to know! My current copy is pretty quiet but if I do end up getting the 2021 pressing, I’ll try and get it off Amazon AU so then it’s easy to get a replacement!

I was low key hoping “I Got A Woman “ was going to be on the 2021 reissue but that was obviously wishful thinking!

I actually have originals of Space Is Only noise and Dots & Loops so this is worthwhile info. Thanks.

The only Stereolab reissue I picked up so far is Sound-Dust on clear vinyl. While the mastering is stellar on it, there is some groove noise here and there, so if I was to suggest anything @NathanRicaud, go for a black vinyl copy of Dots & Loops to be safe.

Also, the Stereolab reissues come in a soft vinyl outer pouch. Those make me nervous for outgassing. YMMV, but I'd remove that for peace of mind and replace it for your favorite outer sleeve.

Got the Slim Harpo Baby Scratch My Back reissue and BoomBoom strikes again. Really nice sounding pressing and just a great album altogether. It looks like it can still be found for around $20 if you look hard enough!

Also got the Junior Wells Hoodoo Man Blues AP45. It's awesome. Thanks y'all for the blues recs. I'll work my way down the list of recommendations and pick up a few more things!

For blues fans out there, I just got Shakey Jake - Mouth Harp Blues, part of the Analogue Productions/Prestige series from a while back. It was kind of a gamble since I couldn't stream it first to see how it was like, but the couple songs I found on Youtube was enough to push me toward buying. And I'm not disappointed.

I also got the Dizzy Reece - Soundin' Off and John Patton - Along Came John.
Haven't had a chance to spin them yet though.

I was eyeing that John Patton! Nice choices. I have the Classics Records pressing of Soundin' Off and it's real nice.
