Definitive Audiophile pressings

Hmm I wasn't aware of the situation on here to be honest (unless I skimmed over it) and my point was always regarding the cleaning. I'm also not saying that there could be a fundamental issue with the record itself, which of course a better system would make more apparent. In this case there might well be an issue with it, I haven't got it yet so I can't comment, but I do know that the other 2 sound fine to me with others saying there is an issue with the pressing. Not that my opinion has any more weight than someone else, my system is far from being high level but I would imagine I would hear pressing issues unless they were incredibly subtle.

I did agree with what I thought @Jbraswell was saying though simply because of some things I have been seeing on Facebook pages. You would be surprised at how many people buy mega-expensive records with starter systems, I think the collectibility and FOMO aspect plays into that a lot.

Even the cleaning aspect plays a part as well. I will screenshot it if I see it again but one person in one of the larger groups complained of a lot of static on the record. He got a second copy and.....same static. Turns out it might be down to the solution he was using to clean (which I wouldnt have ever considered!).
Not every starter system is equal. Mine has its limitations but stellar pressings are stellar pressings and shit pressings are shit pressings. No amount of wizardry between my cart and the speakers is gonna fix that. I fork out some money on stellar pressings every once in a while to remember why i want to upgrade and for that future upgrade.

Cleaning is definitely the biggest issue I see with folks complaining of noise (also folks who get mofis and don't realize you need to play them three or four times before everything sort of works itself out - which begs the question why don't these boutique record shops clean their vinyl and maybe burn them in themselves - would possibly save them some grief on the return end).

Yeah cleaning is definitely an issue but my experience with the Crossley brigade has always been the ultra rare coloured presses that sound fine to them but are crackly messes to me and them defending them to the hilt on cogs. Dead Oceans in general and the likes of Phoebe Bridgers in particular lol.
shittest pressing of a great album in ages.

Yeah opposite to what some people might think MoFi/AP etc are the dirtiest records going and need a few cleans. It’s the extra stuff they put in the mix to stop it sticking to the mold so it’s less likely to be damaged/warped.

Usually, a good clean and about three plays does it. Every once in awhile (that first Bill Evans One Step for example - I have to give it a couple of cleans before it starts playing well) - I don't know if it still says it, but the insert used to tell you that you would have to play it a few times for it to sound right.

I got Japanese OGs of all the best Stevie (and actually all the John Lennon) they’re all excellent. Just bear in mind MoFi of his were working with tapes generations down from the master because Stevie guards them fiercely and they are not leaving his possession.
Ella only had the second presses so I went for those. I'm gunna do the Lennon Imagine Mofi simply because I'm curious. My 2 LP "Ultimate Mix", it ain't sound good. So what the hell, let's see what Yoko and Mofi got up to. Less reverb and less Spector is A-OK with me...

Yeah the Japanese press is miles better than anything post mid 80s I’ve heard but I’ve not heard the MoFi and MoFi are just good in general. If you’re not a huge Lennon aficionado give Plastic Ono Band a listen at some stage, I much prefer it to imagine.

I don’t know who pressed this…
But is sounds fantastic. Anyone who enjoyed meditative acoustic primitivism a’la Jim O’Rourke or John Fahey; will really dig this.
I’ve been meaning to pick this up! Just saw the matrix has TELEGRAPH DRAGON. That’s actually Amy Dragon from Telegraph Mastering. She cut Big Thief’s latest album.
