Definitive Audiophile pressings

I kinda like the option for a nicer box/edition along with an affordable one. Or look at stuff like the My Favorite Things reissue, What’s Going On with extra content, AAA by KG/BG/CB/RKS. Still very affordable but AAA and done by some of the best in the biz.

What I liked about What’s Going On was that it was still just a really nice gatefold at a fair price and it had one disc of nice stuff. I don’t think that the tapes for this, if they’re even still in decent nick, were ever crossing the Atlantic.

I kinda like it. I wish there were less ridiculous overpriced and MASSIVE boxes filled with demos you listen to once, think “the release sounded better” and file away forever and more nice affordable solid presses.

That said very slow boring man spent 10 minutes slowly telling us that it sounded better than his AAA press before saying he’d have like an AAA press for the 50th…

not to distract from what you are saying, but my question from this was going to be is the album in the box set AAA? I know the 40th anniversary was, but wasn't sure what was in the box.

Yeah the box sets were all AAA. The first 3 and a bit anyway. I don’t know if the late 80s and early 90s stuff was recorded on tape or digitally. It’s what caused the dip in volume that was the error with Heroes in box 3. After the complaints they went back and digitally fixed it for the replacement disc.

Yea--I don't need some 5LP with a live record + demos + alternate takes. The MFT release also had a stereo and mono pressing, for example, and is AAA by KG. Good point that the discs were never leaving the UK...but still a bit disappointing!

This Sade boxset is *chefs kiss*

Great sound and surprisingly good QC on the box. Flawless through 3 of the records so far.
It is really good. Supposedly the first pressings had some QC issues but the later box sorted most of them out. Guessing/hoping you got it from the Target sale?

edit: just saw ya got it from amazon.

Indeed! Wonder if this is one of the later boxes then, only issue I’ve encountered is they need a clean cause they come in them lammmmeee paper sleeves and they can be a bit scuffed but other than that the pressings are super quiet after a clean.

I wish someone would do a shootout of Ziggy pressings because I have a copy of the 2003 Ken Scott mix that came in the Five Years boxset that I had no idea I owned, and I think it sounds tops. I wanna buy the half speed, but not enough has been sold to me yet.
I have this 1982 Japan copy thanks to someone’s recommendation on N&G, and I think it’s fantastic, as do the friends who’ve heard it on my system. David Bowie = David Bowie - The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars = ジギー・スターダスト (Vinyl, Japan, 1982) For Sale | Discogs

IDK if this has been asked before, but what is the best pressing of Songs From the Big Chair? I had the silver label MoFi at one point, but did not care for it whatsoever. I currently have this version, which sounds okay.

I have this one which sounds pretty darn good but I also wouldn't mind upgrading.

I also have the silver label MoFi of Seeds of Love and even though it's almost universally panned I really enjoy it.

I have this one and remember it sounding quite good:

I think most OG pressings of this one are meant to sound real great. Interesting you didn't like the MoFi--I had heard great things about it but maybe that's mostly because people spent a lot on it haha

haha, yeah, I bought the MoFi when it was in print, and I was so excited to play it, and was less than thrilled when I heard it. I had an OG when I was a kid, and while I was no audiophile at the time, I remember the one I had then sounded better on my shitty system. But then again, I was like 14 or 15 years old.
