Definitive Audiophile pressings

I want to slap on a pair of gold aviators, hop into a fucking 76 Camaro with this bad boy riding shotgun, the wind in our hair and bad intentions on our minds and peel the fuck out onto the i 90 directly into oncoming traffic because we don't play by anyone's fucking rules man and we'd drive that bitch right to edge of the goddamn universe and back because sometimes you've gotta go to the end of nowhere with nothing to lose just to reach the beginning of somewhere and the katana blade in the back seat is starting to rattle but it's cool because it's time to crank the motherfucking soundtrack to this intergalactic adventure which would of course be ANYTHING BUT STEELY DAN BECAUSE STEELY DAN IS FUCKING TERRIBLE
Ok, you just wrote the lyrics to a Steely Dan song. Maybe you should give them another chance.

Or maybe it's a Kyuss song? I get them confused.

Same here. Although @MikeH said AP might be doing them some day, so I'm wondering if it's worth waiting. If you get the half-speeds will you let me know how they are?

Yeah AP could be nice but unlike a lot of abbey road these seem to have been mastered from tapes so I’m hopeful! Also AP is just such a pain to get hold of over here and I don’t like Chad and the way AS seem to operate.

I will do. I had been hunting for Japanese pressings but there doesn’t seem to be much about so that put me onto these. If I get around to getting any I will of course let you know!

The BoomBoom cut of Tommy is great but from digital transfer:

I’ve been curious about the half speeds. The Roxy Music ones weren’t half bad and the VU were okay. I might just wait for now and look for some used UK pressings next time I’m over there. My father in law gave me a 1st pressing of Who’s Next last time.

The Who are a front runner for the “huge classic rock band” Chad keeps saying they will announce soon. Probably from the classic records plates. But we’ll see! And I get why you wouldn’t be that excited about that news

Yeah I’d be happy to buy them IF they arrived here ever, or like within 6 months of being released, and IF that was that case that they didn’t cost a fortune and lots of others IFs that I can’t quite think of yet.

These are all in my local, the 1LPs for around €30 and the 2 for less than €40 and I can’t say it isn’t tempting.

Agree with your comment about Mr. Kassem. Very unpersonable in my experience.
Didn’t Classic Records put out some Who material way back when? If so, I think I have a couple that I’d let go.

I was always under the impression this was an Eagles spoof.

Also they need to repress that album, Catalina Breeze is a MOOD
Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Loggins & Massina it’s a bit of them all but “Catalina Breeze” is basically a Steely Dan song and something about Hader’s 1970 look gives me strong Fagan vibes though his modern look is definitely Lindsey Buckingham inspired.

I have Avalon on pre-order so I am curious. If it is not great then I will hunt down an OG.

The problem with The Who is that they never really cared about the studio. For Pete, the rawer and more authentic the recording the better. I spent years trying to find a great sounding copy of Who's Next and settled on MOV being the best. For The Who, I think it is going to be a story of just how much can you polish the turd. I am one of those people who think the stuff re-record live for Kids Are Alright is the best thing they ever did.
