Definitive Audiophile pressings

It’s this attitude I don’t care for. We have people from the UK, Norway, South America, and Australia on this forum. When someone says something may be considered offensive, then learn from it. @Joe Mac was only trying to educate as to why it may be considered offensive. Don’t be a jerk.
I am not the one calling people jerks but OK.

Way too tense in here.
Gonna bail for a while.

Just listening to Avalon reissue. Sounds good but do not have any other vinyl to compare it to other than my late 80s cd (which sounds great). Decent soundstage. Not going to blow your mind but a safe buy if you cannot find a nice OG. Overall nice package, with a sharp image on the outer sleeve.

Funny thing is that the album had its barcode on the shrink wrap, so the album art is identical to the original which was pre-barcode era.

The MoFi Workingman’s Dead sounds great. First time I’ve received a new MoFi title that didn’t have the usual marketing materials in with the vinyl. This is just a gatefold with 2LP’s each within a Mobile Fidelity “original master sleeve.” Nothing else. Also kind of weird that the backside of the gatefold is upside-down relative to the front. It’s all good, though, because the stuff that matters seems to be spot-on!

I also got the MoFi and noticed no marketing materials as well. I believe the OG pressing had an upside down back cover as well.

You might be right about the OG pressing. I checked an early repress I have and the back cover is right-side up, but that’s the only point of comparison I have.

EDIT: Just checked discogs and saw this: “Original 1st pressing with olive-green WB labels and upside-down rear cover (it's said that the rear cover was intentionally printed upside down).”

An oldie but a goodie: Al Stewart - Year of the Cat. This is one of those early (1978) half-speed mastered MoFi titles. Sounds very good. Pretty much every song has a significant instrumental passage and that's especially where this pressing shines. Kind of interesting to see how the mastering process is described in the marketing folder that came with the album. (This was a $3 estate sale buy for me, so I've got nothing but praises to sing for it ;))

That was the name of them when the guy from Pakistan was making and selling them to the landcruiser guys. He may have even used it first. This goes way back in time though.

Has been called that on a global landcruiser forum for over a decade. 100s or 1000s of thread posts.
The term never even surfaced as offensive until today but it was intended to be in the context I was using it from a 4wd forum. Nothing offensive intended.
No, that’s not what it’s called bc it’s made in Pakistan. There’s actual word for that. “Pakistani”
Since I asked the question about Jbraswell’s Land Cruiser top I want to chime in. I can confirm that this top, handmade in Pakistan by Pakistani craftsmen was marketed by those same craftsmen by the name Paki Top online around the world. As such, for Jbraswell to repeat that name was, to me, obviously without malice. Stay friendly ya’ll.

I like the song Year of the Cat, is the rest of the album comparable?

Seconded. I’m trying to get more into the Dead as my GF is really intrigued by the jam scene and it’d be something for us to share, it’s a great listen, specifically Uncle John’s Band and Casey Jones. Same experience on lack of promo materials too.

It's a homage to the initial pressings of the album that were mistakenly pressed with the back cover upside-down. The upside-down cover has become the standard for the vinyl. It's the same on my Rhino pressing as well.

I don't know if you've wandered into the good ol' grateful thread but if you go back a few pages, @JohnnyCashFan was recently asking for some suggestions (and got a bunch), including live shows, movies and mixes etc, if you're looking for stuff to check out

I have The Very Best 2Lp coming from @Ethos99 on vinyl, not cheap, but looks to be a good primer, great pressing and sounds great.
Was recommend in the Dead thread here:

Also, on digital I have Europe 72' (Live), and Workingman's Dead (which I had playing on my phone walking yesterday btw 🎧). But I have not taken the deep dive yet (and may not).

I won't call it a "definitive audiophile pressing", but the Yellow UK Optimal The Smile pressing is very very good. A couple quick hits of possibly no fill at the top of side 4 but otherwise it's dead silent and very dynamic.
I enjoyed mine as well, I thought it was the black vinyl version, but when I opened it up and it was the yellow version.😊

Michael's comments on it were great as well

I can't disagree with him, my scope of musical knowledge in terms of new releases would be far far below his but this is definitely the most exciting new album I've heard in, quite a while. I mean obviously anything Radiohead is exciting but the fact that they seem like they're having fun again, and about half the songs are up tempo is really compelling for someone like me who kinda misses the old Radiohead sound.
