Yes, I don’t know any other industry where one of the premier manufacturers/retailers would sell their own returned/damaged/flawed/leftover items at a massive premium and not be racked over the coals about it. But, in vinyl world it is just considered fair business practices given the “collectability” of the product.
You would think they were struggling and just just barely managing to pay the bills. Because if you were doing really well what little extra profit you would generate like this would be far out weighed by the hit to your business reputation.
Sadly when AS does this or when MD sells marked up new just out-of-print MoFi titles there isn’t much a vinyl buyer can do. They control such a large percentage of the premium audiophile vinyl market the buyer (or independent resellers for that matter) is at such a disadvantage that normal business practices become whatever the biggest decides they are.
And, I have preorders in at both of them. Great products, I want to buy them, and often direct is the best option. However, when I see stuff like this I don’t have to like it.
Sorry for long post. A lot of pent up frustration going on in many markets right now with inflation, shortages, etc. I’m feeling it tonight.
