Definitive Audiophile pressings

It's yet another example of AS's incompetence, because PayPal can allow charges to pend until the order is completed. I've seen it done with other merchants.
interesting. I haven't seen many places do pending paypal transactions at all. i know paypal says no pending transactions for preorders further than 20 days out. and if you preorder, the window of payment protection starts the day you order, not the day you receive something.

i know this isn't a preorder but can't remember the last time I saw a pending PayPal charge.

I only order APs through AS nowadays. Their prices are expensive otherwise and like you said, places like Plaidroom and other shops are much better to deal with all-around. It's a shame because I have been ordering from AS for almost 20 years now but they are having more and more issues that are harder to ignore.

I had one recently for a cabinet my wife ordered from West Elm. A new transaction posted every seven days for about a month until it was finally available to ship.

But your point is well taken, that this wouldn't be ideal for indefinite preorders

Yesterday morning, I checked my account and saw that AS had cancelled my Reckoning order. I've yet to receive a refund via PayPal though. Has anyone else seen a refund?

Cancelling with neither notice nor an immediate refund - just one more example of the poor business practices of AS. I'm done with that company.
Pretty ridiculous that we haven’t even received emails about it yet.

Looks like Tone Poet will be actioning the Test Pressings. Chick Corea is 1st one up.

I wonder what they’re auctioning it for?

Edit: Oh. Themselves. That’s kinda disappointing and a little gross. Oh well.

Sounds like they plan to do this for other TP titles BUT it sadly doesn’t mention any altruistic charities in the text …

Yeah that’s kinda the gross bit. It’s creating a mad FOMO bidding war between fans just to line their own pockets. Normalising this kinda sales method to just shift very rare pieces of your own stock for maximum profits is not a move that I like the look of as a music and vinyl fan.

Question for those with Ella Records experience. Are you confident buying records in VG+ condition from them? I just got two NMs from them and they were absolutely perfect. So I am considering bending my general rule of never buying anything graded less than NM online for more than a few bucks.

I favor NM- but a few records I ordered were graded VG+ with a note that says EX- with scuffs. They've been great really. As good if not better than Record City EX-. Maybe a few more pops than NM- but nothing that bothers me. The main reason I've been getting japanese pressings is to get clean vinyl of AAA pressings, which is to say I'd consider myself picky when it comes to records being too poppy.

I’ve had multiple orders canceled from AS and have never been notified. The only way to find out is to login to your account. My Sly order was just canceled and that is the only reason I know. It’s a terrible system. However, as someone else mentioned, I did get the other item that I ordered at the same time shipped for free, even though it’s wasn’t expensive enough to put me over the threshold. Do I think they did that to make it up to me? Helllllllll no. Just another example of their terrible system.

Has anyone ever tried to get a refund from Record City for misgraded records? I just got a big box of records from Record City that were all graded EX and the LPs are just filthy - tons of dirt, fingerprints, stuff that looks like mold, scratches, etc. I’m hoping most issues will clean out, but I already found a record with a feelable scratch across an entire track, so not off to a good start. I thought EX was their highest grade? Any advice on dealing with them would be appreciated!

I've ordered around 50 records from them, all were graded EX. Only two have issues, all of the others play really well after cleaning. The two duds have a scratch that causes a repeating tic for 20-30 seconds. I emailed their support and explained the issue. The first one they refunded outright. The second they offered a half refund, I replied that with the flaw the record was VG at best, which I would not have bought, and they then gave me a full refund. Note that these two cost around $10-12 each, so it was an easy call for them. I don't know how they treat costlier items, or multiple items.
