Definitive Audiophile pressings

If you can find any Marley releases on the Tuff Gong label, out of Jamaica go for them. You like bass? So do Jamaicans and they got impressive amounts in the grooves of their records.
I’m set on Bob Marley records haha! Are the Tuff Gong pressings really any different than the Island pressings? I have all the island pressings, mostly 1st US and UK pressings, and all have sounded great to me. I also have the Studio One reissue VMP did and the Heartbeat 2xLP collection called “One Love” I think which are about as good as you’re going to hear the Wailers in Ska form. I’m still waiting on the Turf Gong Jamaican version of Catch a Fire though (damn that reissue). I do need to pick up the handful of records from the early 70’s at some point that they did with Lee Perry and Leslie Kong.

I’ll have to give a listen to the Tuff Gongs in the collection including Catch A Fire. My memory is that the TGs are rawer, more primitive and oh, the BASS! All which fits the intent of the music. I also remember they aren’t all that flat and the vinyl might be a little noisier than the Islands. I picked up a clutch of them at a garage sale in Florida about 30 years ago.

Nice haul! I’m not convinced that Tuff Gongs would be any different than their UK counterparts but they very well could be. I do know that several Jamaican pressings of big reggae albums are quite different than the worldwide releases like Marcus Garvey and Blackheart Man. I have both and it’s fun hearing the Jamaican pressings compared to the clean, almost sterile worldwide releases.

And still no changes in any other preorder title descriptions from what I can tell with a random quick look. And, no word from big corporate honchos or an official social media response. As someone who doesn’t collect music said to me after I showed it to them for an outside opinion “This is just embarrassing.”

Doesn’t really matter anymore, just assume they’re all from DSD. It’s not like they don’t sound amazing whatever they use. It’s a shocking revelation for sure, that MoFi is all digital nowadays, I feel like everyone is taking stupid pills over this.

Yes please

Don't hold your breath, I'm guessing you won't here an "official" statement from MoFi.
I don't know what people are expecting from them. They never said all analog. They said Original Master Recordings, and stated the source was master tapes. That is still very much true. Sure, they are perhaps guilty by omission here, but they never said all analog - just that the master tapes are their source, which is true.

I do see them starting to update descriptions on their website to clear up the issue. I'm still not convinced that this is a sonic issue, as DSD256 is such whoppingly huge sampling that it may very well be better than the analog tape - which is MOFI's position, and people can judge from the product.

Is this a massive crisis for MOFI? NO.

Sure, some will make a big point of announcing their cancellations on the internet, particularly the Hoffan losers. Those are a very small fringe.

It MIGHT hurt flippers. GOOD.

Most corporate or brand crises are not crises at all. In fact, aside from the rabid dogs, most people forget the issue rather quickly but remember the brand - even better. Very, very few impact sales and then, only for a very short interval.

About 10 years or so ago, a news outlet called me to comment on a big media scandal about a major brewery running ads that supposedly promoted excessive underage drinking and general party lifestyle. My comment was - "I bet they sold a lot of cases of beer in the past few days."

The President of the brewing company called me and laughed - he said - "You got it. Sales of that brand have spiked like crazy!" - crisis for media, not a crisis for anyone else.

Exactly!

Grabbed this cheap on Amazon from a Reddit suggestion saying it was the BG cut. They were right! This sounds amazing!

I've wanted to grab the In Utero BG cut for some time, but prices are really high on that one. This Nevermind Back To Black was a good deal!

Have you heard the B2B In Utero? it’s the 320 cut which sounds really really good and is supposed to be AAA. The BG is supposed to be best but it costs a lot more

Sad 😔

Looks like it's still available from Craft? Is this the correct one @TenderLovingKiller® @Hemotep ??

Welllll guys guess what.... The PHM pressing that Craft is selling directly from their site? Isn't the Craft pressing. It's the Bicycle, same ol'one you can get in any store and pressed at either NRP or United. This hobby is so dumb.

That seems disingenuous since it shows up when you filter label name to "Craft Recordings". Did you get a copy? I'd def call them on that. I think they owe you a great big apology.

Oh...and the image is def not the Bicycle reworked cover. Disregard, looks like the Bicycle single LP does have the original cover....only 2LP BIcycle and UME have the diff cover.

Yeah, definitely a Terrible Lie. It's just the standard 2011 Bicycle release from the looks of the jacket.

The reworked jacket is actually Universal, it's from 2010. I have it, it's not great.

Really? I have the 2010 UME with no issues.

Although it does look like there is a BIcycle 2LP w/ the same jacket.....https://www.discogs.com/release/9644085-Nine-Inch-Nails-Pretty-Hate-Machine

But, regardless, I'd be annoyed if I was specifically looking to get the Craft and I ordered from Craft and I got the Bicycle.

Next move? 45 min video. Let's get the nerdizens on this one.

This still available on Amazon? Can’t seem to find it.

It should be around. I see it all the time at record stores around here. It's the one that has the Pallas sticker on it. Most places around here have both that one and the 30th anniversary edition - that one should be easy to distinguish because it has a different sticker.

I have one on the way, and if it's not the Craft release that shit is going right back. No video necessary.

Yeah I’ve seen it at my local for $30ish. I was looking specifically for the cheap copy on Amazon. I’m guessing that deal is done, cause I can’t find it.

Also, I live right down the street from Music Direct, so if anyone needs me to send a strongly worded message to them in person about their Mofi shenanigans, let me know 🪧

They have different labels and the Craft is pressed at Optimal. Why would Craft sell another labels records?
No clue, but according to the jacket, it ain't the Craft. Unless they starting using Bicycle jackets on their own pressings. Haven't opened yet.

And if you look closely on the website, the label on the disc does not show the Craft logo. Didn't notice at the time.
