Perhaps the greatest indictment of capitalism that I can imagine is the idea of buying any amount of these with a goal of flipping for profit. Independently, it’s amusing and slightly shocking to me how much run Steely Dan gets here, and I know it’s 99% sarcasm/ribbing, when, for my money, The Eagles deserve so much more (without the sarcasm).

Supposedly only the second place to have one after Les Paul got the first one installed to his studio in 1957. Was supposedly at the insistence of Tom Dowd who wanted them to remain at the cutting edge.

I believe Les Paul inventing 8-track recording. He's the guy when it comes to multi-track recording. it's in the Tom Dowd doc where he talks about getting the 8-track at Atlantic early on and spreading the use of that technology. I'm sure they had one in '58, that seems to align with when he would've gotten one shortly after Les Paul's.

I kinda agree. Though I will say I feel like they were overrated for such a long time, and so enormously popular amongst the baby boomer set that when combined with “The Lebowski Effect”; that The Eagles backlash has now been going strong for at least the past 25 or so years or so. Personally, I never gave them much of a chance but then on a whim I recently picked up a copy of Hotel California and was surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did. I haven’t dove into their discography further but I wouldn’t be surprised if I ended up enjoy a few of more of their records (obviously not at MoFi One-Step Prices). I don’t think they will ever be confused with CSNY or anything but they are probably better than I have given them credit for.

As someone who went through high school and college in the 70's, all I'll say is that if you're a current Dawes fan and you're ripping on the Eagles, I've got some bad news for you.

Also spinning Coltrane MFT this afternoon.
Reminder of how good the boom boom is.
I prefer the ST but the Mono is not what I would call flat.
It's pretty impressive IMO.

I got the two disk in a package for $25.
Another Rhino seriously underrated value this year.

LOL! but also that is kinda of point. 25 years of “I hate the fuckin’ Eagles man!” Maybe has caused many (myself included) to almost underrate The Eagles?

I know I know... the Eagles are basically Yacht Rock as far as I'm concerned. I don't mind them in moderation. Probably the biggest knock is they were huge all the way into the early 90's around me so they were massively overplayed at the time. Kind of like The Doors to be honest, although that band doesn't garner the same response from me or most people. Probably oversimplifying, but I suspect the difference begins with one getting 70's AM gold airplay while the other was more AOR.

I think another important difference is that one of them ignited and then was snuffed out pretty quickly, while the other lasted long enough to devote more years to wearing out their welcome than most bands ever have at all.

Gen X revolting against their parents/ mainstream played into it too I am sure.

Same thing with Sideways and Merlot. I like Merlot!
On my honeymoon, we went on a tour of a vineyard in Tuscany where they specialized in Merlot (still the best wine I've ever had). My wife and I made the mistake of bringing up the movie and our guide let out a string of Italian expletives 😂 - safe to say they were feeling the effects of that movie all over the world.

I mean the eagles are an open goal. We could all spend all day knocking the ball in but there isn’t quite the same satisfaction, it’s wasn't hard won or earned…

I take back my last post! A re evaluation of the fucking eagles! They’re like everything that’s wrong with humanity. Terrible terrible people making music so laser sharply aimed at selling as much as possible that it lacks any soul or depth. Music for sociopaths to sociopath to…
