Discogs - Help, Tricks, Secrets And Tips

Butterfly collector is a great song mind .. b side in the U.K. unbelievably....but billy hunt is a great one .... tough call

For some reason they made "The Butterfly Collector" the main side of the The Butterfly Collector / Strange Town single here in the US.

Which is why I have a promo with just The Butterfly Collector on both sides.

Sometimes I wonder when I keep having to deal with people like this if I'm coming across as an asshole or something. I don't think my writing is confrontational - at least at first.
It's not you, it's them. People generally don't like being told they're wrong. People who do weird stuff like submit information to online databases really don't like being told they're wrong.

And, The Jam is awesome. That is all.

It looks like we've got the "all clear."

A whole lot of "No" votes are needed to get these out of deletion purgatory.

Cheers

I'll see what I can do...

elsewhere this could use some yes votes to merge - the signed version should be merged with the non-signed.

I don't really agree with it, but that's what we do.

I think this shows how many people vote before researching. A bunch of people just think that "we never remove releases" so I don't need to read it.

I just hope discogs figured out how to prevent this from happening again. The voting system sucks, anyway. Plus not many people know about the 80% rule (I didn't know the exact number before this). So now Folsom needs at least 8 more "No" votes to get out of this. 🤷‍♂️

Cheers.

Discogs needs a lot of work, from the database to the marketplace. I wish they would actively update and tweak the site

- The voting system
- The free editing system and no abuse controls
- Marketplace: adding multiple to sell, stuck in the design of a user selling one of something. Should let you add one listing and have multiple for sale without adding 43 listings like some sellers do. (like Ebay)
- Marketplace: Control over how many of one item someone can buy.
- Marketplace: Overhaul shipping options so I don't have to do tricks to offer different shipping levels. Their recent shipping update seemed to solve a problem only some people had and didnt go far enough to standardize it.
- Marketplace: Do away with Paypal like Ebay is doing. Bring payments in house so I don't owe discogs money once a month. They spend the month sending me payments daily for people who dont use paypal and then i have to send them money for Tax and fees on the 20th.
- Marketplace: Overhaul or get rid of Discogs shipping, what an abomination.. and the domestic prices are higher than everyone else.
- Multiple app updates: Searchable inventory, manual resync or more robust sync so you don't have to manually re-sync, etc
- Throw out the community forum section. Its so basic that its annoying to even use.

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch. For most of these I've had to figure out a work around, which I have mentioned here like; adding more than one item with the app, using a third party shipper that integrated with Discogs (Pirateship), or moving 15% of my paypal to a discogs "payback" account.

It would still be nice to see the site evolve a little faster.

At this point I don't think it is a case of evolving slowly. I think they just actively don't want to change anything. No excuse for them to not make collections sortable the same as an artist or label listing. The code and fields are already on their site. There have been countless requests for it and it is hard to believe it would be more than a days work plus debugging if that would even be necessary.

You're probably right, they don't care.

And one more for the list, Why the hell cant the app act like the website? I can't edit an entry without going to a browser and when the app is my default way to open discogs links I have to jump back and forth to do things.

Maybe I am the last to know, but since I didn't see anything on the runout markings master list or the label/pressing listings, I thought I'd share.

Finally realized what a stamp symbol I occasionally see in deadwax is. Sometimes you will see the Hand Drawn Records logo stamped. I am assuming it can be anything pressed at their plant, since the album I have is not on their label, but I'm not sure. Not exactly a revelation, since it is easy to tell if something was pressed at HDP by seeing HDP in the deadwax. At least now I know it isn't something else.

Looks like this guy but a lot skinnier torso wise:

Here is an example. Seems like missing an arm is common? Or maybe it always looks like this. Not sure.

If this is already known by any of you guys and you know the right way to put it in the listing, let me know. Since I didn't see it mentioned on the HDP or HDR listings, I just wrote [Hand Drawn Records logo] under the Matrix/Runout field with description Side B, Stamped that I created. Is there a better way? Wouldn't be surprised if someone was unhappy with that.

while the submission histories have been quickly getting out of hand, i'm afraid the "reviews" have been this way for a while. i honestly wish there was a way for contributors to put those up for removal like we do bunk releases.
They should just be done away with entirely like IMDb did away with comments. Then each page should have a forum of discussion if warranted. The discogs forums are so underutilized because half the people don’t even know they exist
