Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

They tried sending a Bass Ale truck. I sent it away. I’d prefer Guinness.

Also there is a whole army of home brew Colins in sheds and light industrial units up and down Britain condemning you for calling bass real ale. As an aside it would appear that the the British real ale brewers, audiophile hifi producers and racing car producers might all be the same middle aged group of Colins...

So are you plugging your main cable into the HF or LF posts? And then running the jumpers from HF to LF using spades while using banana clip on the main speaker cables?
Yes Banana into HF and jumper has spades.

I have always done Banana in HF, no real reason why just what I have always done.

mind if i ask why you are guessing this? i just wanted to know... i am not really doing the cartridge change until probably march so i have enough time to fidget
More than anything just a guess off your past posts compared to my experience. I think when you consider price of Ortofon vs AT in states and the sound signature it would be a better match (I assume).
I have had Shibata and now Microline. I like my Microline but the Shibata had a different feel to it. Plus with vinyl making a comeback I wouldnt be surprised if a couple Quadraphonic albums but that be another money drop. I know you prefer headphones right now.

could just be a dirty stylus. how many hours do you have on it? have you got a ZeroDust or some BluTack you can use to clean the stylus?

Oof, hard to say! Anywhere between 375-600 hours? I have a ZeroDust and that’s about it in terms of stylus cleaning equipment! Perhaps it needs a deeper clean, not sure how to go about that!
Also wonder if playing around with the anti-skate setting might make a difference if you think this is related to the position of the stylus in the groove?
Just adjusted the anti-skate, I want to say that may have actually helped the sound out a bit. Might be too early to tell though, it was at 3 and I popped it up to the recommended 3.5, but was already on Side 4 when I made the switch. Going to have another pass on the same pain point today!

It was time for me to change my 2m Blue when it started doing that. I would check hours on the cartridge.
2M Blue is said to go around 1000 hours, I’m certainly under that I believe! May I ask what you switched your cart to? Or did you just get a replacement stylus?

It's usually around annually I need to change. Others have said the same around here. You may have another issue. I would check my set up first. I don't believe a minor tweak of the tip would make it unplayable. It might need to be adjusted though. Yours doesn't look bad to me in the photo.

At the time I got it retipped and then tried a used 2M Black which sent me down a rabbit hole to where I am now. On the way I had a guy re-tip a two 2M Blue's with Shibatas for around 150$ each. He was on ebay. It was much less for a retip on the 2M Blue as is. You might try him. Also I have those two 2m Blue's with Shibatas if you are interested at some point. They have less than 50 hours each.

Edit: I even have a black with around 400 hours on it and the Black cartridge that I need to unload somewhere down the line.

Thanks for the info! I’m sorry but what’s a Shibata?!

It's diamond with a cut that gets more detail tracking the grooves. It's the tip shape that is native to the 2M Black as well.

I think I have a business card with the guy who retipped if you ever need it too. You don't have to go through ebay.

A Shibata is a far more advanced stylus profile than the nude elliptical of the 2m Blue. It’s standard on a 2m Black, among others.
Fascinating, didn’t realize you could modify Ortofon styli like that. Sounds pretty nifty, I’ll shoot you a DM about those Shibatas @VMPKJ

Those of you with small kids and bookshelf speakers what are your suggestions for stands?

I don't want to have these on stands on the floor at the moment. I've seen a few short stands that you can set on your kallax for example, I was thinking of doing that to tide me over for the next few years.

Edit: I should mention I have my turntable and all other electronics in a separate rack, so they wouldn't be sitting on the kallax as well.

Edit: had something like this in mind The Drunken Snipe Hardwood Speaker Stands (Pair)

I know I only come into this thread looking for advice without being able to provide any but I'm always grateful for all the opinions I've collected on here.

Very close to having my setup completed: Would anyone caution against stands like this for the Wharfdale Denton's sitting on a sideboard?
