I'm sure Grado has repaired enough bent and broken cantilever's, and stylus over the years to have reason not recommend using a Zerodust.

People will spend $50+ on a new or old pressing, but balk at $35-200+ on a record cleaning machine and fluid. hmmmm

To be fair I think the majority of people on this thread, and definitely @kvetcha, are using such thing in addition to a record cleaning solution of one description or another.
 
So what should I use to clean my stylus because I legit feel like I need to and its making things too noisy and maybe even changing the sound characteristics

I’m not saying there’s no potential for user error, but using the Onzow as instructed is not inherently dangerous to a cartridge, at least no more so than lowering the stylus onto any other substance.

If there’s some physical/chemical reason that’s not the case, I’d be curious to hear it from a manufacturer. The only thing that comes to mind is that since it is a resilient gel, if the platter does move, the material will not give the same way as blutack, so has a higher likelihood of wrenching the mechanism.

I guess if you sunk the stylus like, way in there, you could risk cantilever damage pulling it back out, but again, I point to user error. The Zerodust calls for a couple of light touches, and nothing else, to properly clean the stylus.

I just wanna know the best way to completely clean my stylus from all the gunk over 2 years in my grado cartridge and then be prepared for getting the ortofon

From the various opinions gathered so far, Grado doesn't recommend cleaning fluids. So don't get the LP#9. Proper and very occasional use of tacky surfaces seems appropriate. Frequent record cleaning and stylus cleaning with brush before each play is advisable and will limit the use of the tacky surfaces.
 
I'd rather have a more professional solution and just might have to use a stylus brush (though I dunno how that is going to remove any of the dried up dirt from so long ago and make it sound better
 
I've just never used blutack in my life and it feels so DIY of an idea that I feel I still break my stylus and be causing issues like it sticking too hard
