It can be a matter of break in. Don’t do anything now, but it can also be the 2 12AU7s that come with the Rogue from the factory. Every tube sounds different. You can always swap for brighter tubes down the road.Ok, guys. I’ve never owned a receiver/amp that didn’t have bass and treble controls. Obviously the Rogue doesn’t have those features. Is it a matter of my ears adjusting and the amp breaking in? I’m currently listening to a CD that I’ve listened to numerous times over the last week and a half and I find it missing some of that treble.
is this were the term brightness comes into play?

It can also be what you are used to. One way I can tell if a component is bright sounding (unless it’s over the top obvious) is by listening to string instruments- especially violins and violas. When listening to the real thing live, it’s amazing how bright those instruments aren’t. I find one very popular small $1500 pair of speakers to be quite bright. They aren’t accurate, present a poor value, and I don’t like them. But they sell like hot cakes, so what do I know?
I never said.LS50s?
I’ll stay put for now. Which tubes would you recommend for a brighter sound? If I need to go that route. Would changing the gap in my DW help at all?It can be a matter of break in. Interesting. Were on my list of potentials...I never said.
NAD is a good brand in my experience and they typically have budget-conscious lines. Looks like their C538 is a bit above your cutoff new, but you might look for a refurb.Anyone have recommendations for a budget (<$300) CD player? I've been looking at a Yamaha CD-S300. Don't mind used prices under $300 either.
If you lower the gap in your DW, that will change the tonal balance by reducing bass, making the treble seem more prominent. I wouldn’t change anything right now. Let the amp and tubes cook for 100 hours and see what you think.I’ll stay put for now. Which tubes would you recommend for a brighter sound? If I need to go that route. I’m not the one to ask which tubes make things brighter. Usually, I’m trying to move the other way. @kvetcha had a Rogue Sphinx at one point. Hopefully he will chime in.
I believe the Sphinx comes with JJ tubes? I swapped Gold Lions into mine, but I wouldn’t say it made things any brighter. I found the Sphinx fairly neutral in my setup. If you lower the gap in your DW, that will change the tonal balance by reducing bass, making the treble seem more prominent. Will do! I’m in a Zu FB group and someone who also owns the Sphinx suggested Zu’s rubber footers and someone else suggested the Schiit Loki. I’ve been thinking about getting footers anyway so that might be first option after burn in.I believe the Sphinx comes with JJ tubes? I agree with @HiFi Guy that you should let it burn in and maybe play with the toe.
That's pretty clever. I'm thinking about these (with spikes), but not likely to be as cost effective. Curious about the resonant properties of bamboo LOL.Bamboo cutting boards off Amazon

Not one with a built-in optical drive, just an external drive which is a pain. That's a good idea though that I hadn't thought about. I do have a Playstation & Xbox I use in a pinch at my TV, but I'm looking for an upgrade for my main listening setup which is currently using one of those Tivoli mini tabletop radio CD components.Do you have a spare laptop ? I use a old 2012 MBP running Audiovana with a Schitt dac. Good affordable usb dacs can be had around $100 now from Schitt, SMSL, Topping, etc.
