Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Auditioned a pair of Harbeth C7ES-3's today at the home of a local dealer. They've got a pretty sweet sound, and now I'm waiting to see what he can do for me with pricing. They are the former models, which I suppose have now been replaced by the anniversary edition that has become the XD line. Thankfully their sound hasn't changed! ;)

Jealous. But damn it's expensive! I think I'll venture to the concept MC next time (when I move back to Europe), a bit cheaper, especially on the other side of the pond.
Definitely expensive, and I never would think of spending that for a cart, but 'justified' it to myself by buying the Concept Wood with the Maestro installed. So I probably paid that for a cart! but got a decent deal on the turntable?

or you got a free cart with your normally priced table...

I'm liking my Maestro so far.... :D
Oh, I'm only thinking of that now, but when it's time for you to change your cart, you could probably just change the stylus with an AT one. It apparently works with the Virtuoso, so probs work with the Maestro too. Here is an example :

$1300 for a gussied up A/T MM is a tough pill to swallow.

Update on the Darlington Labs preamp. Was wondering why it hadn't actually shipped, and got this without asking. Now, I don't really know what the upgrade means, but it sounds promising :ROFLMAO:

Hi Matt,

Here is a shipping update on your MM-6. We held it back for an additional two days to install an upgraded rear jack panel, using CMC 805 style jacks. This will be an extra cost option for future production but we want to get client feedback, and it's a free upgrade for your patience.

Sounds like better quality RCA jacks on the back panel. Could just be that they’re physically better quality, so more solid and a better connection, or could use a better conductor (up to gold from copper or silver from gold). Could also have zero impact at all but its definitely positive to get a little upgrade for free!

I do like a free upgrade!

Wondering if I should look for a fairly reasonably priced cable upgrade for the speakers.

I’ll have my write up done in a couple of weeks. It seems obvious that they care about their products as well as their customers.

I have the blue jeans BJC 10 with the locking banana plugs going from my amp to the Lintons. For its price it’s brilliant! If you need them I haven’t got their RCA cables so can’t speak for them but I’m pretty sure everyone whose bought them around here likes them.

So with the Marantz PM5005 it has those little plasticy connectors, which I don't think will work with banana plugs. Any thoughts on what to do there? Just pull the plugs off on that end of the wire? Some kind of contraption to make it work with plugs?

Banana plugs will work on that end as well. They'll go right into the little hole in the middle of the connector on the Marantz
