Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

I was under the impression that most thought floor standing speakers were better in a vacuum. Is that strictly when comparing bookshelf no sub vs. floor standing because of range?
That’s a big part of it. Your subs are going to dig deeper than any (obtainable) floorstander.

One argument for floorstanders is tuning - when you add a sub to a system you have to go through the work of blending the crossover, which is done for you on a discrete speaker, but if done well I don’t think you’re losing anything on the deal.

Do you have a large room? The floorstanders probably have an SPL advantage, but it may be moot unless you’re listening at high volume.

This is just at a very high level, of course. I own and love floorstanders, but I also augment them with a sub. :)
Big room and like I said but not clearly, I would be getting the "same" Zu Omen mk ii but the floor standing and they are only off by 2hz in range even with the current sub. current set up goes to 32hz total. the Floor standing Zu goes to 34hz

Would be moving from sealed to ported too.

The advantages going from sealed to ported would primarily be…more bass, which I think you have covered. And if they’re using the same drivers and crossovers you’re really not gaining much else in the exchange. In fact, I’m willing to bet you’d be surrendering quite a bit of low-end overall, both in quantity and extension.

Thanks. I checked online earlier and must have pulled the wrong info. on the sub. On the physical Sub it says I'm going to 30hz and my cross (ear tuned) Ironically is right at the 52.5hz mark in keeping with the listed specs on the speakers of 50hz. I think you're right. Both are powered too so it's a different ballgame I suspect.

You said you had a pair of subs? Do you mean you have a sub next to each speaker, and the subs are being driven from the left and right channels?

I’ve got one sub for the system. Those frequencies aren’t really localized so there’s no issue with imaging.

Yes. Like Kvetcha said it's not about location. I have mono blocks for one. For the other It splits up the load for power on the subs.

Sorry, I guess I misread the original post. In that case, I'll keep my mouth shut because my opinion of subwoofers was ruined by a certain well-known speaker company that royally messed up their crossover point.

No worries. If I could have jumpered the sub across the two amps I would have but that's a no-no. Everyone I talked to recommended one sub for each mono channel or no sub at all.

I’m still around guys. Thanks for the concern. We are short handed at work (again) and I’ve been working 12-15 hours a day 6-7 days a week for the past month. No end in sight either. I just realized I missed signing up for Secret Santa.

On top of that I got rear ended by an idiot In a jacked up Ford F-250. My black Fiat 124 Spider is no more. Found another one. Hopefully people can see a white one. Hopefully.

Glad you're still with us! Sorry to hear about the Fiat, but I'm glad (and rather surprised!) you were able to find another.

Good to hear from you @HiFi Guy
Hope you get some good listening in soon.
