Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

I’m still around guys. Thanks for the concern. We are short handed at work (again) and I’ve been working 12-15 hours a day 6-7 days a week for the past month. No end in sight either. I just realized I missed signing up for Secret Santa.

On top of that I got rear ended by an idiot In a jacked up Ford F-250. My black Fiat 124 Spider is no more. Found another one. Hopefully people can see a white one. Hopefully.
Oh wow, glad you are ok. I hope things normalize for you at work soon.

Glad you were ok. Sorry about the Spider. That’s a bummer. Enjoy your holiday!

I'm having a major speaker change itch.. really want to try some Harbeth or Spendor bookshelves.. not interested in trying to sell the Forte's on Flea Bay as I got burnt on a recent sale and not playing that game again so thinking I might try my dealer and see if he'll take them on trade for a decent amount or see if he'll consign them.. otherwise I might hold onto them to see how the new ones work out. Would love to find someone local who may want to trade, but thats a long shot..

You can do "local pickup only" on eBay, if that helps?

True, I always meet buyers at a safe neutral location, like a coffee shop or courthouse, never at my house. These buyers might want a sound test, and therein lies the rub.

This is why I’ve always traded in gear towards the next buy. Dealers have generally been really fair with me on pricing too. It’s not quite what I might be able to get selling myself but it’s gone right away so I don’t have a money shortfall and it’s zero hassle!

My dealer offered me $1750 for the pair towards a pair of Spendor Classic 3/1's... I might eventually jump, but seems likely I could get at least $2500 on the open market.. I'd feel better if I could get him to $2000.. I guess we'll see just how scratchy this itch gets.. and then I need stands.. lol

Seeing your staying in the samller room that may make sense.

Sometimes the price also depends on the margin that’s in it for him on the thing he’s selling you too. I know my guy wouldn’t go any higher on the trade in for the quads than he did purely because the margins on PrimaLuna stuff are really thin. That said I got 60% of what I bought them for (or 50% of the RRP) 2 years on and that’s no bad. I might have got a couple of hundred extra selling myself but they’re not the easiest things to shift so it could have taken me months.

Old or new Fiat? I had a ‘69 124 Sport Coupe as a first car that I bought from my dad. My brother had an early 70s 124 Spyder. Fun, simple cars.

I’m starting to worry that I might need to replace my MasterTacker. There appears to be a more harsh sound coming through the highs. It’s not been on every record I’ve played in the last week. I’m going to pick up some stylus cleaner and see if that doesn’t fix what I think I’m hearing. 🤞🏻

How old is it and if you replace what are you thinking?

Do you have a loom or magnifying glass (or app) and can inspect it ? Make sure it is not cruded up or worn. Do you have a degaussing record(cardas)/track ?

I would also recommend pulling out your best sounding/pressed album and give it a listen, it may not be the cart. Before you start chasing your tail and or spending money you don't need to ;)

Along with the great advice already mentioned. If the cart/stylus looks fine, then run through a full setup. Check everything. Table level, VTA, VTF, overhang, etc... Something could have gone squirrelly on you. The very slightest of "settling" can cause these kind of issues.
