The cartridge is about $400 of the difference. But that extra $300 on other things seems to have gone far.It should, it costs $700 more.

Agreed. To compare, the standard Planar 3 with the same cartridge runs $1595. For $100 more, the 50th Anniversary Planar 3 adds the Neo power supply/speed control ($445 separately), an upgraded belt ($75 separately), and an upgraded drive pulley from the Planar 6.The cartridge is about $400 of the difference. The glass platter comes with a felt mat that’s a dust magnet. It also sticks to the record when you flip it if there’s the slightest bit of static electricity. It's interesting that they went with a glass instead of an acrylic platter. I seem to read very conflicting opinions on which is the better choice. But just in terms of looks I think this one looks a lot nicer than the Theory.
I didn't care for the felt mat on my glass platter either. On a Nad though, not a rega. I've tried cork (2nd best) and rubber (3rd) but surprisingly adding an acrylic mat on it produced the best sound. The glass platter comes with a felt mat that’s a dust magnet. Having owned 2 Regas in the past, including the current P3 (non anniversary) I’d buy the Theory.
Price-wise you're what, $200 from a P6 here as well? The glass platter comes with a felt mat that’s a dust magnet. It also sticks to the record when you flip it if there’s the slightest bit of static electricity.

Yeah, the P6 with the documented plinth sagging issue. I wouldn’t buy that either.Price-wise you're what, $200 from a P6 here as well?
Plinth sag!? Oh jeez, hadn't heard of that. That's not good!Yeah, the P6 with the documented plinth sagging issue. I wouldn’t buy that either.
I like the P8 but it seems like a lot of money for a table with a bunch of holes in it.
Yep, sag in the middle. If you Google it, you can see pics. All of them don’t do it, but really none of them should.Plinth sag!? Oh jeez, hadn't heard of that. That's not good!
Yeah, i played a few of my regular test records when I set up the NAD, but it's actually been more interesting to listen to random shit. Infinitely more listenable (less fatiguing - which I DID NOT EXPECT) than the Sony, I didn't really realize how much it was coloring my listening - especially the bass. I wonder how big of a change it will be at 100 hours or whatever.Well I gotta say. This JC3+ is pretty impressive. I can tell once it really opens up in 100 or so hours (or whatever it takes for this one) it's gunna be one hell of a lot of fun. The air and separation between everything even on my worst pressings is pretty impressive. I'm trying to play all my worst vinyl just to see how it handles it (and the TT as well) and yeah, pretty impressive stuff.
That's awesome. Yeah I bet it just gets smoother and smoother as it burns in.Yeah, i played a few of my regular test records when I set up the NAD, but it's actually been more interesting to listen to random shit. I mean, that's what I figured. I remember the aha moment when my Elacs finally burned in and opened up. I also like it when a new cart finally breaks in.That's awesome. Yeah I bet it just gets smoother and smoother as it burns in.
It’s funny, when I see people post something like “all the turntable does is spin at the correct speed, all the sound comes from the cartridge” I pretty much know they don’t know what they are talking about. One place I can definitely hear the difference between tables for sure is the tracking. The speed and detail that this table is pulling out with the same cart I've always used is pretty crazy. It's so fast l, I'm playing electronic music and it's just flying through all the technical parts with total stacatto accuracy.
It seems like a lot of money, but sound wise it’s very competitive in its price. There’s some good old fashioned witchcraft going on there. I’m smitten with mine, even with two other good tables, I use the P8 the most.Yeah, the P6 with the documented plinth sagging issue. I wouldn’t buy that either.

Looks like the MM stage has around 7db more gain than the Aria. That ain’t insignificant, especially with a pretty high output MM like the 2M.Other interesting thing about the JC3+, I had heard everywhere that it was whisper quiet, had a jet black sound stage. Well it's 10-15 db louder than my previous Aria stage. So on my amp I'm getting the same volume at 50 that I used to get at 65+. Which is to say that 50 is damn loud now, that certainly helps with the silent running, suddenly my amp is doing way less work.

It's interesting that by the stats it's only 7 db (I didn't actually check the stats) because in practice it's showing as almost double that on my amp. I'm lucky I have the -10 db attenuators on the amp already or there's no chance it could handle the output of this thing combined with the 2M BlackLooks like the MM stage has around 7db more gain than the Aria.
