Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

I'm on the MM setting which is locked to 47 I believe. So I won't be adjusting the gain until I move to a MC. And honestly I cannot imagine what a MC is going to sound like because dear lord it's already better than I had expected.
I think it was covered earlier, but 47 dB gain with the "hot" Ortofon will shoot quite a bit of voltage to the Arcam. Nothing to worry about unless you are hearing unpleasant things.

The MC may or may not be a better experience; something new to explore when you have settled in with the new setup. I came full circle on this once I upgraded my table. I still use a MC, but I no longer feel it's an order of magnitude better than my best MM.

Yes I have -10 db Rothwell attenuators on the Arcam which allows it to behave. Without them it goes all to hell on certain albums. With them, everything seems to still be fine even with the new stage. But I'm keeping an eye on it. What would happen if I switched to variable and lowered the gain? I'm assuming it wouldn't work because variable is expecting a MC?

It’ll all depend on loading. Does the variable side allow for the 47k loading for the MM. Also its options are all likely going to be an order of magnitude higher, in and around 60dB, as it’s mostly going to be built with LOMC’s in mind. I’d be surprised if it allowed for less gain than the MM setting.

Probably right, too tired, can't look. Will look tomorrow.

The Paraasound doesn’t have adjustable gain. It’s fixed at 48 dB MM and 64 dB MC.

The adjustments are for MC cartridge loading.

Okay look I have no idea what any of this means.

Ah honestly you don’t need to really understand the maths or science behind it. Most MC cartridges will give you a minimum loading impedance and on or above that and generally you’re going to be fine. Plus you can’t damage anything with the wrong impedance, at the very worst you’ll just make it sound a bit shit.

He should use his microscope.

Did anyone get the NAD 3050 LE? Thinking of upgrading my NAD C 316BEE sometime in the next and I'm loving the look of this thing but wondering how it would stack up against the other popular options around these parts

The LE one sold out almost instantly but @Lee Newman got the 3050 which is the same but with vinyl wrap, rather than real wood veneer, and the blueOS card being option rather than included.

I’m sure he’ll tell you what he thinks!

Ooo, well if anyone has the dough, this seems like an LE for a steep discount! No idea about this store though

How are you liking it @Lee Newman

EDIT: This isn't LE, just realized the difference is that the LE has real wood. Disregard.

That’s not the LE lol! That’s the standard 3050. That’s it’s price without the blueOS card which is why it’s cheaper than the LE was originally priced at.
