Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

Way back in the day I was a big "matched separates" kind of guy, but over the years it's like, there are too many great companies making very cool gear to put all your equipment eggs in one basket and not try new things ;)

Yes and different brands means you can tailor your sound. Maybe some nice tubey preamp with a solid state power amp to give a bit of grunt, for example.

Yeah, "matched separates" is the analog to a three-piece suit versus a business sport coat and slacks. It's of a particular era.

With that said, I have a Bryston phono, preamp and power amp - all with black faceplates. Very 1990's.

I'll take my top hat, frock coat and spats and will amble off now...

Speaking of Macs, anyone think this is a good deal? Log into Facebook
I wouldn't jump at it. Despite their longevity, 50-year-old Macs would still require some updates, like new caps, to perform at spec. Even then, the specs are not amazing: Total harmonic distortion: 0.25%; Damping factor: 13 on the power amp.

Newer Mac gear would be my preference. Besides, who buys a tuner these days?

Makes sense. The tuner I’d keep around for looks. I’m in no hurry to upgrade.
