Everything Video Games!

Hah! I came here to post something like “WAS THIS THE BEST NINTENDO DIRECT EVER OR WHAT?!?” and was surprised to see that some folks were disappointed.

Anyway… I’m over the moon about the new Mario Strikers game. What better way to get hyped for the World Cup?

Also super stoked about having the Portal games on the Switch (I don’t think it’s controversial to say that Portal 2 is one of the best games ever).

And Xenoblade Chronicles 3… hell yes. I better hurry and buy/play through XC2.

As for the extra Mario Kart tracks, it sounds awesome but I’ll likely wait until more (or possibly all) tracks are out before deciding.

Other than that I’m curious about Triangle Strategy and also the Chrono Cross remaster. Probably won’t want to pay full price for either but they will sit pretty in my Wish List waiting for a discount deal. Same with Switch Sports, which looks worth $9.99 at best.
I feel like I somehow never played a Mario Strikers game but reactions to this Switch version are really positive, so it may be time to check the series out

I had a dream about F-Zero last night and thought about sharing it with y'all, but didn't want to jinx anything. Sigh....

That said, I'm surprisingly down for spending $25 and getting 30+ Mario Kart tracks, coming from a guy who owned a Wii U and Mario Kart 8 the first time around. Chrono Cross is exciting from the Square Enix side of things, especially if that means a FFT remaster, as well.

AND I'm super jazzed about the Triangle Strategy prologue. It was already on my list so having the early preview/prologue chapters will only serve to get me excited and hopefully others supporting this kind of story-thick tactics mishmash of a game.
I would love to see a new F-Zero!

Also, have you tried the Triangle Strategy demo? I checked it out last night and played up through the first fight. Realized I am RUSTY at turn-based strategy games. That being said I'm getting huge FFT vibes and can't wait for more!

In related news, I checked out the e-shop to see how much my wallet's going to be crying after this direct. My most anticipated announcement, Chrono Cross is only $20, which is fully reasonable. Live a Live is a shocking $50 (I was guessing 30-40), and Advance Wars 1&2 is going for a full $60. That one probably won't be a day one pickup.

I played the stress-test prologue demo from back when it was still "Project Triangle Strategy," but haven't dove into the new one. Also love th FFT vibes and stoked to get the first few chapters without paying.

Heard on the Advance Wars front. I still have my GBA copy of the first one and Dual Strike for the DS (and Wargroove on the Switch) so I'm probably set without upgrading immediately.

I’m not sure it’s been much of a series. There was a GameCube game but I believe that was the only one. That was a great game, so I expect this new one to be a blast.

Guess I’m gonna need to play that demo, huh? FFT is an all-time favorite of mine even though I’ve only ever played it on iOS. Hundreds and hundreds of hours. Epic stuff.

Have you heard of this label called DATA DISCS? Basically the first "record label solely dedicated to releasing video game soundtracks on vinyl". Their artwork is very cool. Have anyone some of their records?

Data Discs

I stand corrected! I didn’t have any systems between the N64 and the Switch, so I’ve missed out on a lot of stuff.

when i was growing up, my parents could never afford a home console for me and my brother, so instead we would only get the portable consoles like the game boy advance and the DS. it’s only recently since like 2016 that i played catch-up with all the gamecube/wii/ps2/ps3 stuff that interested me but could never play on my own

Picked up AC: Valhalla again over the weekend, and was pleasantly surprised to see Kassandra show up in my questline! I always enjoy when AC crosses over between the games, and I don't think they do it nearly enough given how well the basic premise of the franchise lends itself to having past protagonists pop up randomly

I just saw that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is getting a DLC Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is getting a DLC featuring 48 remastered courses from throughout the Mario Kart series to be released over six waves.

Looking forward to this.
yup. and it's included in the online Expansion Pack if you have that, or for $25 separately for all 48 tracks. it's going through "the end of 2023", so yeah, no Mario Kart 9 coming anytime soon.

One of my Co-workers is seriously considering Selling his PS5 and getting the Xbox Series X.

He feels like he got had buying into the PS after Microsoft bought all the gaming developers. He strongly feels like all the games are going to be on the Xbox only and tough luck to you Sony people.

That seems... highly premature of a decision to make. But then again, I feel like that also depends on what kind of games you anticipate being put forth through those devs as platform exclusives.

Then again, HFW was my #1 reason for needing a PS5. Funnily, I saw someone comment on a FB promo that they'll wait till it's on Game Pass... Good luck to them.

This seems like a big overreaction at this point. Yeah Microsoft has made some big acquisitions but are we pretending that Sony doesn't also have a ton of studios making good games under their belt? - Guerilla, Insomnia, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Sucker Punch, Housemarque, etc...

Plus Sony has like $10B left set aside for acquisitions which means we still have no clue what the landscape will even be at this point.
