Some of them will be lost, but I think a good majority of them (or the worthwhile ones at least) will have a home on piracy sites. The most reliable archivists in our increasingly digital time.
yeah, you’re definitely right about emulators and roms being a saving grace,
cant say i havent ever relied on an emulator in my youth to try out games i otherwise couldnt have gotten a chance to.
im thankful that i have a physical copy of my favorite games, but yea shout out to emulators
Bit the bullet and finally ordered a physical copy of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for almost $70. I’ve been hesitant because of the cost and also the amount of time I’m likely to sink into it… but the allure of XC3 on the horizon plus a gorgeous soundtrack made me do it. Guessing this will be my self-medication through this spring and summer.
you will 100% need to play xc2 before the third one comes out, just from that trailer alone, there are already elements from xc1 and xc2 within the new game’s plot,
plus, i can guarantee that when you complete xc2, your reaction to 2’s ending now would be to start the third one as soon as it comes out,
With Horizon coming out Friday, I just remembered I forgot to post about Zero Dawn. I completed it a couple of weeks ago. Fantastic game, loved it from start to finish. The DLC was really good too, and I'm glad I looked up when to go through it when I did. I went everywhere on the map and did everything, including all the quests and getting the special armor. Loved the story and all the little lore bits you get through the audio and text logs. Also really liked that they hid some text in the audio logs that you can easily miss. Great sci-fi worldbuilding that sometimes hits a little too close to reality. There's some truly messed up stuff going on both in the present and in the past. Nobody told me this was a horror game!
With all that said, I won't go into the details of the story, but I did want to mention my favorite side quest:
My favorite side quest was the one you do for Enjuk at the visitor center, where you have to collect the animal figures that each slot into the hologram projector. These provide a brief look and the name of the creature, but no explanation. This leave Aloy and Enjuk to speculate on what type of creature they were, usually being grossly incorrect. I love everything about this one. It's playful because we know what these animals are like so we can laugh at their guesses. But it's also very disheartening, these creatures are completely extinct in this world, and unless the Zero Dawn project had some backup reserves of DNA for these creatures, they are gone forever. From what I gathered in the lore, this is not going to be the case. I probably thought about this way too much, but all the layers here entertained me a lot.

I'm playing through Zero Dawn currently too. I'm not very far in (I've just tracked down and sorted out the first camp of rebels from the ambush) as I don't get much spare time to jump on the PS4 but the bits I've played so far have been really good fun. I agree with the above - the story is interesting and I'm intrigued to keep digging through. Even on my standard PS4 it's a very pretty game, so I'm looking forward to seeing the new version on the PS5 in due course.
I need to look up how to get to the DLC content, I've got it as part of the download, but no clue when or where it drops in!

My Horizon Forbidden West delivery was last logged in a town of fewer than 700 people on the opposite side of Indiana less than 4 hours ago. Really beginning to doubt it'll arrive today, even though the tracker still says scheduled by end of day. My last FedEx package was unceremoniously rescheduled 5 times and delayed more than a week.
I heard about this game last year and then was excited for it. Had completely forgot about it until I saw this post and now I'm excited again. Might have to pay full MSRP for since I have not been very interested in a lot of the games on GamePass and it's not going to be out on there anytime soon.

got to try out the Switch Sports online test earlier this afternoon, can't say I loved it. you can't pick a specific sport during the test, you can only select random. there's little to no instructions, except for after finishing each competition, which isn't exactly the most helpful. it really feels like you need a few minutes with each game to get acclimated to the motion controls but instead they just throw you into multiplayer competition. either I was playing against someone just as confused as me or I got schooled.
I was able to test bowling, tennis, and the sword fighting twice each in my time, which for me was not enough to get comfortable with any of them.

Considering I can trounce most ppl in Just Dance while sitting on the couch barely moving my wrist while they work up a huge sweat I have zero faith that the Joycons will have any meaningful association to movement like the wiimotes did.
As someone who didn’t do the test run on sports , Nintendo does and pretty good job of tweaking things after seeing what the demand is. Unfortunately they are so behind on the times on online services that this is what is required.
I do feel the game in general will do a better job of assisting with explanations and controls.
Also joy con will not be meaningful like wii mote in that the technology isn’t new. I do think if they can return the original sports feel they have a home run hit. There are still plenty of scenarios I have found a Wii still plugged into a TV just for Wii sports.
I think the leg strap (soccer?) will probably be the least desired in that in appears too clunky.

Wiimote is optically tracked (for a certain quantity of "optical", line of sight may be better descriptor). Joycon radios the sensors' telemetry. The latter is much easier for human body to "hack" by emulating movement without committing the actual movement intended by the receiving program.

Sure , and just like the just dance issue , you can immerse yourself in the play or phone it in.
My concern is primarily focused on if things like bowling and tennis (which have a muscle like memory ingrained) motions translate close enough to how well it worked on the Wii.
All in all it was pretty consistent in regards to movements / motion for what it is. If they can execute that as well as the Wii I think this will be a no brainer. Especially for those who “had all the Wii games. Bowling. Tennis. Baseball. Boxing”.
For all of you who have picked up Forbidden West yet....any first impressions? Review are off the chart and really enjoyed the first game but still having a hard time pulling the trigger on games at launch day prices. Happily replaying Mass Effect right now (thank you, Legendary Edition) but HZD: FW has got me thinking I might need to bit the bullet...

I'm enjoying it so far. I like the skill tree progressions and think that melee while not perfect is so much better that HZD. Climbing is still a bit of a mess but I guess is slightly better?
There's also some nice QOL improvements like having a stash to hold items and the layouts are much easier to understand what can just be sold off for shards and such.
The dialogue and VA is about what you got in the first. While it is a bit meh at times it doesn't turn me off as much as others seem to get so guess depends on how you feel about that in the first.
