Everything Video Games!

new Fire Emblem looks… peculiar.

doesn’t seem koei tecmo worked on this one like three houses, but gameplay footage looks like it reverted back to 3ds era FE. 3h wasn’t the most stunning looking game, but for a Srpg, the new mechanics played great. will need to see more footage to convince me of this new one tbh

Goldeneye coming to N64 Expansion with online is great news, but I want that remake that people have been seeing Xbox devs playing..

Sifu seemed cool to me, so may check it out on Switch

but damn, I was expecting my balls to get blown right off with Metroid and Zelda news but it felt like this Direct was mostly farming games...

Very curious what this means lol
Direct sequels. Most Legend of Zelda games are fresh stories from fresh timelines, or time periods, only linked (lol) by the characters names and lore.

Zelda II: The Adventures Link wasn't good. Majora's Mask was one long timed mission, I hated it. Phantom Hour Glass and Spirit Tracks were meh.

I much prefer games built on completely new structures. I guess a caveat to that would be Links Awakening and Link Between Worlds were spiritual sequels to Link to the Past. They were great, but still, I don't want another Breath of the Wild, Breath of the Wild was awesome, now it's time for a new game, not more of the same.

When I think of Zelda games (not the deepest fan, so I may be off base), it seems like each one has its own distinct gameplay mechanic. BotW made that mechanic an open world; maybe that's ethereal enough that another dip in the same well won't feel like a case of diminishing returns? I say this as someone who enjoyed BotW but never beat it and got extremely frustrated by the breaking weapons/shields.

I never beat BotW either despite buying it for both Wii U and Switch...I have until May to finally beat it before the next one

My BotW save is at about 205 hours. Looking at the map and path feature from the DLC there are still some spots I haven't been to yet.

I got really into exploring, upgrading all the armor sets, completing all the shrines, farming Lynels, finding treasure chests, korok seeds, climbing all over everything, etc.

The Champions Ballad was a heck of a challenge.

BOTW is probably my pick for gaming’s GOAT, but I hear you. I too was disappointed by Majora’s Mask and to this day was never able to muster to energy to get into that game. But I also can’t picture myself NOT buying BOTW2 the day it comes out. I’ve played through BOTW at least 3 times (once on Master Mode), and its DLC once.

As for the new Fire Emblem, I put about 400 hours into 3H but at first glance I’m not as excited about it. I agree that the graphics look bland (I actually quite liked the visual presentation of 3H). And although there were annoying, grindy aspects to 3H, the game rewarded multiple playthroughs by letting you level up the skills of characters used in previous playthroughs more quickly. That was a nice touch since the game expected players to try out 3 (actually, 4) separate campaigns. I think I ended up playing through it a full 7 times, which is admittedly not healthy.
