Everything Video Games!

you don't even need to mod the 3DS, you can just get a flash cart...

as someone who's always known about, but only recently starting delving into emulation, it's definitely fair game in my opinion that if there's no way feasible way to purchase (other than used/second hand) then there's no issue with running these games...

I actually ordered used, old office mini PC for like $150 that I want to run Batocera on, which should be arriving in a couple of days... it'll be my first foray into running all this and I'm definitely not as computer savvy as I used to be, but I think I'll get it running without much issue. Switch emulation might be pushing it when I get it up and running, which if fine since I have a Switch, but everything else Nintendo should run... some of which can be upscaled. not sure what else it'll run (PS2 I'm sure but probably not PS3) not really sure about Xbox, but I have Series S and Game Pass, so...

I also have a Miyoo Mini Plus coming (actually two) which will be my first emulation handheld...I got the shipping notice last week, but as it's coming from China who the hell knows when it'll actually arrive. I was hoping this week, but now I'm thinking it'll be a bit longer.

anyway, I get it if people don't agree with emulation, but damn it's amazing some of the stuff going on in that scene..

yea, i’m not opposed to modding/emulating, it was how i played a bunch of games on my parents’s PC when i was a little kid bc i couldn’t afford to buy a console back then.

i also agree with delta about the eshop closure not being entirely unreasonable (at least from a business/company’s perspective). the 3ds had a pretty long shelf life, and once the switch had come out, interest in the 3ds had waned. i still remember back in 2017/2018 when people would get mad bc there was 3ds stuff getting shown on directs (as opposed to just switch exclusives).

also, i caved in and got wind waker lol

and then on the 3ds i bought:

  • dragon quest wars
  • monster hunter 4 ultimate
  • the entire Ace Attorney 3ds catalog
  • Mega Man Legacy collection
  • Shin Megami Tensei IV
  • Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright path and Revelations path (I have conquest path on cartridge)
barring the jrpgs and zelda, everything else was $3 individually, so pretty good overall

I put like over 400 hours into MH4U... loved that game (I love all the MH games, really)

it's kind of funny, because the little bit of fiddling with emulation I've been doing on an old Android phone I realized that you can't beat playing DS/3DS games on an actual 3DS, so I got myself a new battery off Amazon (the old one no longer held a charge) and I've been playing that more than my Switch lately

Currently doing the same thing with an old work laptop. It's an i7 from 2017, so no GPU. It'll handle everything up to PS1 I think. I currently have it connected to a 4K 30HZ TV, and Final Burn Neo is stuttering a little bit as a result. I've acquired a bunch of ROM sets over the years and the plan is to test them on this version, then move everything over to my Xbox Series S for a better experience. Missing some of the newer systems ROMs, but have most of the older stuff.

that's awesome! I'll let you know how it goes. I contemplated a 2nd Series S just for emulation but ultimately decided to go the used, cheap PC route as a project.

Steam Deck!!
yeah, as I was looking at PCs in kept wanting to get a little more in terms of specs, which means spending a little more... until I was in the range of the cost of a Steam Deck, which then yes that makes the most sense. and while I'd love to have one, it's really more than I should be spending at the moment

But with many new cool abilities!

It retains all that made botw great and then added similar “endlessness” to the weapons and vehicle combinations adding to the “you CAN do that” charm.
yup with even more possibilities in this game, from what that video showed, than with the previous powers. I was kind of expecting the "look and feel" to be slightly different but I'm okay with it being BOTW with new powers.
