Baldur's Gate 3 has received PCGamer's highest review score in 16 years.

I'm definitely excited for that upcoming bugfix patch, though.
Question: I'm not a PC gamer, so I'm waiting on the PS5 release for this. But, as someone who aspires to start playing tabletop D&D with my kids, would playing Baldur's Gate 3 help me learn a decent amount about how non-CRPG D&D works? I'm completely new to any tabletop RPGs, FYI.

Oh, absolutely. It can be a bit dense to pick up at first, but it's a surprisingly robust and faithful conversion of tabletop, despite Larian implementing some not insignificant house-rules.

I know it's not a game for me, but I love what they've managed to accomplish. I think I saw it had the highest score somewhere else for all games ever made.

it really seems to be a true unicorn in the world of videogames!

I need to resume TOTK. Been way to busy with work. Haven't picked it up in like 2 months.
I was finally able to put it down this week after 3 straight months of heavy playing. Withdrawals for sure, but I’m gearing up for a second playthrough this winter. Trying to keep busy by checking some lighter fare from my local library, like Mario Strikers Battle Football (which I ended up buying online last night). BOTW and TOTK are probably the best games I’ve ever played, and it’s always hard to follow up this type of experience.

I'm just over 100 hours into BOTW and can't bring myself to finish it. I know as soon as I head to Hyrule Castle and beat Ganon I'll probably lose interest, so I'm running around exploring, doing side quests, trying to upgrade armour, etc. This game just really does not get old.

Yea let yourself lose interest in exploring before you hit final boss. The nice things about this one and TotK is that the game can end really whenever you want.

So you beat the game?

Yeah, I beat it at around the 180-hour mark, then spent another 120 messing around: finding caves, wells, Yiga bases, gear, etc.
Is it worth it to do everything? I’ve maxed out my hearts, found all shrines/light roots, I’ve got enough Sage’s Wills for the three Sage’s that I use (I don’t use Mineru or Sidon because they’re kind of pointless imo). I thought about finding all caves but that might take 5ever, along with wells too. I could try to collect all the armor pieces but the upgrades are pretty ridiculous to collect. I used the Champion’s Leather with the Hylian Hood and Trousers which is strong enough for most enemies. I’m 160 hours in and even with being pretty much done, every time I’ve played I find something fun to do. I probably need to make a decision to take on Ganon but I haven’t yet.

I think you've done more than enough. I went ahead and did the final boss at 85 hrs before i got bored with the game. Around that point the gameplay just becomes a feedback loop. Which is fine, you can really do however much else you want.

I mean, depends on what you consider “everything.” I did A LOT in 300 hours but my completion stat (which you get access to after you beat the game) shows that I’ve barely cracked 80%. IMO it is not worth it to try for 100% completion, but obviously some people gun for that.

It also depends on whether you’re willing to look stuff up online to save you the hassle. I tried to find every cave and well on my own but eventually had to look up the last few. I also needed help finding the last two Sage’s Wills.

I think my goal was to see most of the game had to offer, and I accomplished that. Doing so won’t stop me from playing it all over again from scratch, though!

Oh yeah I’ve totally cheated in finding a few things. I got a fair amount of shrines and then needed help for like the last 7. There is no chance that I wouldn’t cheat in getting the wells/caves because that is even harder than finding shrines.

The wells are hard but you can add them to your sensor. Obviously you’d still need to be in the general vicinity of one in order to get signal.

For the caves, I assume you know the deal with the cherry blossom trees by now. Even with that help, it is still a lot of work to jump from a sky island and place markers as you glide down. And even if you do that, there are still a couple of caves that are so well hidden that you might miss them (at least I did). There are 147 of them!!!

Norco is a masterpiece. Finished it last night and will be thinking about it for quite awhile.

Beautifully written, gorgeously presented and, like Disco Elysium, extremely thought provoking in it's themes and the way merges the surreal with the mundane.
