Day 17 -
National Random Acts Of Kindness Day - Play something by an artist that has proven they think of others.
I was fortunate enough to go to three of the Bridge Benefits before it ended. Neil and Pegi Young held them for 18 years I think to fund the
Bridge School, which teaches children with severe physical and speech issues. Part of the joy of the day was the celebration of the students, who were fully immersed in the day - having Q&A sessions outside the main area and being present on stage for the performances.
Best memory of the 3 years was the first year I went. Performers included: Neil Young, Pearl Jam, Brian Wilson, Florence & The Machine, Tom Jones, Soundgarden, Norah Jones & Puss'n'Boots, Band of Horses, and Pegi Young and the Survivors.
Highlights included the last time that Eddie and Chris (and Temple of the Dog) did Hunger Strike together, Neil coming out with just about everyone and getting to see a Mirrorball tune (Throw Your Hatred Down) with PJ and Neil, and Tom Jones blowing everyone away. The real highlight was Florence and the Machine though, I think it was just her and a harp/piano player, and she shut the place down with her voice. 20k people and you could hear a pin drop. Then having her come out with Neil and do a fantastic version of Southern Man was the icing on the cake.
Anyway, playing Neil but really this goes to anyone who played the Bridge Benefit over the years and how they impacted the lives of those kids.
