Love this record. Art Blakey also seems to have some of the most gangsta ass pictures on his album covers as well.
I always forget, is "white b" considered to be a better press than "black b" ?
I think it depends on the record. Some Black B records have Van Gelder stamps while some don’t while their White B counterparts do.
At least this is what I’ve gathered looking at a handful, not 100% on this theory.
Im late to the party on this one, but I do know that the white B was introduced in the mid 70's and used interchangeably with the black without any logic to it. The black B was used slightly prior to this as well. As @johnpisme said, the Van Gelder stamp is the main thing to look for, quality wise, in the later pressings/reissues. I cant quite remember where I picked this all up, but I agree, the London Jazz Collector is a fantastic resource and has pages dedicated to Blue Note labels etc.
