Fresh Grabs

Love this record. Art Blakey also seems to have some of the most gangsta ass pictures on his album covers as well.

I always forget, is "white b" considered to be a better press than "black b" ?
I think it depends on the record. Some Black B records have Van Gelder stamps while some don’t while their White B counterparts do.

At least this is what I’ve gathered looking at a handful, not 100% on this theory.

The general rule of thumb is that black B is earlier, but it does depend on the specifics of the record. You always want to check for a VAN GELDER stamp or an RVG. Either white or black B copies can have or not have these stamps. Having the stamp is always best. This particular record I recieved was under a discogs listing that had a VAN GELDER stamp, but looking at the record today after I got it, I see it does not.

London Jazz Collector is an invaluable source for all Blue Note and other jazz record pressing questions.

Forgot this was on the way. Now i'm seriously done for this month *starts browsing on Discogs*

And all three albums are warped

Its growing on me more and more I listen. Feeling Fades plus Slowdance I & II I absolutely love. I think I still prefer Fontaines for now but I've only just started with this band so let's see

I keep going back and forth on the Murder Capital record. Sometimes it reminds me more of a mid-200's sub-Editors band but I've been coming around on the album and I think I like it quite a bit. I don't think it sounds anything like Shame, Idles or Fontaines DC. I love all three bands but the Fontaines album is probably my favorite full length from all of them. This is such a great wave of bands.

I can see the reasons behind the comparisons but i think they are very different so I agree with everything you have said. It's a great time to have these bands coming out after not much of anything notewortht imo for so long. The Fontaines is my favourite too though. Murder Capital is definitely one of those that begs repeated listens and deserves them

I don’t see the comparisons hugely myself either beyond the fact that they sing in their own accent like Fontaines D.C.

Why I preser it is probably because musically I get a much more post-punk, rather than simply punk, feel from it. To me it feels like an album that is a bit more clever and that will deliver more with repeat listens. That said I’ve just listened to it the once so that may change.

I watched some live footage of TMC and they have a similar look and intensity to Fontaines. I’d love to check them out if they tour here.

Fontaines was definitely more accessible for me especially on a first listen, also the fact i had a lot more time with them as i had bought each single as it came out & seen them live a few times before the album dropped. This is a lot darker & tougher, less upbeat but beautiful all the same. Just reading the reasons a moment ago behind the music is making the songs click even more, all relates back to a friend of the bands suicide. I keep wanting to go back to it
