I got the two jazz records from one of the most extraordinary shops I've been in for a while. I'd long wanted to go to Andra Jazz but it was often closed (I have to squeeze digging trips in between meetings and flights and even today only had 15 mins there). But what an Aladdins Cave for jazz. This photo shows a lot of CDs but all the sides unseen are chock full of jazz. The choice was rather overwhelming so I filled some holes in my Miles Davis catalogue and vowed to return...

Never easy finding African singles with the covers intact so to win 3 on Ebay was pretty nice. Fela Kuti - Lady/Shakara, and the Poly-Rythmo are fairly common. But the big one is in the top left - it's K Frimpong & His Cubano Fiestas with a single that wasn't even on Discogs. Beautiful Ghanaian highlife, and nice sleeve - his blue and black albums are some of my absolute favourite African records so well worth checking out.

And two great highlife albums, both by the mighty Kyeremateng of Ghana (covers much more common for OG albums than singles)

Lee Morgan - Introducing Lee Morgan (Savoy Records, 1956 First Mono pressing)

This was the big one I have been waiting for. Lee Morgans first record as lead! Its technically Lee Morgan with the Hank Mobley Quartet (Hank Mobley, Art Taylor, Doug Watkins, Hank Jones). Its a real treat of a record, with some hard bop at the beginning and some more relaxed ballads towards the end. What I find most crazy is that Morgan was just 17 at the time of recording.......17!!!!!
