Fresh Grabs

new osees record arrived 15 days before its official release date and Bent Arcana came with it.

Following on from @Poly-Rythmo, my copy of Nubya's album 'Souce' arrived today as well. Crazy to consider just how influential she is in the UK jazz scene, yet this is her debut full-length album! The splatter is also really cool and pops when you hold it up to the light (balancing the record while taking a photo made my palms sweat :ROFLMAO:). I also ordered a cheapo Milestone release from the Wynton Kelly Trio, which arrived as well.

Nubya Garcia - Source (Concord Jazz, 2020 Signed Pressing on Tan Splatter vinyl)
The Wynton Kelly Trio - Full View (Milestone, 1968 First Pressing)

Starting to get worried about my Nubya package. Overseas to US shipping is slow and in a sorry state at the moment. And an email to customer service for a little reassurance that it shipped out went unanswered all week other than an automated reply saying they were overworked. 🤞

Did you order a signed copy? I followed up on the automated reply and the following came back (3 days ago):

Due to COVID-related delays, Nubya has been delayed in signing products and it is on our way to us. This is expected to ship within one to two weeks. We are so sorry for the delay.

Yes. Signed. Glad you got a 2nd response. Gives me hope. :-)

Nice haul from today's carboot sale plus a few other pickups from this week.

Alphonze Mouzon - Funky Snakefoot (Blue Note, 1974 First US Pressing)
Al Green ‎– Call Me (London Records, 1973 First UK Pressing)
Rolling Stones - Beggars Banquet (Decca, 1968 First Mono Gatefold Pressing)
Ella Fitzgerald - Ella In Hollywood (Verve, 1961 US Pressing)
Louis Armstrong And His All-Stars - Louis (Philips, Netherlands 1957 First 7" Pressing)

Some real gems from today's carboot sale. The Beggars Banquet is the real gem, it doesn't have a single mark on the LP (honestly looks unplayed) and cost a grand total of.....£1. I have the VMP Al Green and really enjoyed it, so I was going to leave this behind but for the £1 he (the same seller as the Beggars Banquet) was asking I just had to get it (it will make for a good comparison test). I had never heard of Alphonze Mouzon before so this Blue Note was a great find, looking forward to digging in. And to top it all off I picked up an Ella Fitzgerald (who I have been listening to a lot recently) and a Louis Armstrong 7".

Bob James – Once Upon A Time: The Lost 1965 New York Studio Sessions (Resonance Records, 2020 Limited Pressing)
Gene Russell – New Direction (Black Jazz/Real Gone, 2020 RSD Limited Coloured Pressing)
Sun Ra – Egypt 1971 (Strut, 2020 RSD Limited Box Set)

First of the RSD August drops, just need Ron Carter and Charlie Parker to arrive now. I listened to the Bob James last night and im stunned by the quality and session. Absolutely fantastic release and well worth picking up (its still available from quite a few shops!).

Stan Getz / Joao Gilberto Featuring Antonio Carlos Jobim - Getz / Gilberto (Verve Acoustic Sounds Series, 2020 Pressing)
Ella Fitzgerald – Ella in Berlin: Mack the Knife (HMV/Verve, 1960 First UK Pressing)
Roy Eldridge: Little Jazz Giant by John Chilton

Finally a mixed bag. I ordered the Getz/Gilberto on Amazon UK (through a separate seller) yesterday for £24.99 (which I thought was a great deal!) and it arrived today. Cant wait to dig in as I have heard great things about the Acoustic Sounds Series. Ella Fitzgerald's Mack The Knife is the famous performance where she forgets the lyrics mid-performance and successfully ad-libs her way though. She won 2 Grammys for that performance! Finally, I saw the Roy Eldridge book in a charity shop and the photos were interesting enough to warrant a purchase.

You did well with the RSD picks. I'll be interested in what you think of the Sun Ra & Gene Russell picks.

I had Gene Russell in two different baskets when the website failed & then actually completed the purchase & got an order number from Rough Trade, only for their system to fail in processing the order.
Im saving the Sun Ra box for when I have time to properly sit down and listen to it all, hopefully I will find some time tomorrow. I got lucky there though, it had sold out on all the websites I was looking on, including Rough Trade. When Rough Trades website went down and came back online, it was available so I dived in and was able to get it. Looking forward to the Gene Russell as well, im really surprised at how many copies are still available (at least, there was a load when I last looked).

I must have looked at the wrong times, or places. I’m sure more copies will surface at some point. 🙂

Ah damn, my local definitely had a copy on their website earlier this week. Just checked and they are sold out too. If the Gene Russell pops up anywhere I will let you know.
