Fresh Grabs

Well fuck…

Purchased this during the UDiscover music sale on 12/27 It was shipped via UPS Two day Air and arrived in Tacoma on 12/29 where it would spent the next two weeks being loaded onto and off of UPS delivery trucks. Everyday I would get a notice it was out for delivery and every day it wouldn’t get delivered… Until today when it finally arrived with massive seam split that I am willing to bet wouldn’t have been there had it not been loaded on and off the delivery truck a dozen or so times. Oh well, I contacted UDiscover and it looks like they are still in stock hopefully I can get a replacement.
Update: they offered me a 10% refund (approximately $2 off) I politely declined and requested a replacement.

Donald Byrd & Bobby Jaspar – Cannes ‘58 (Sam Records, 2022 Wax Buyers Club Limited Pressing)

First up is the fantastic Wax Buyers edition of the latest Sam Records release. Cant wait to dig into this! The additional print is stunning and, in my opinion, even better than the other one.

Ken Moule - Cool Moule Arranges For ... (Decca, 1957 First Mono Pressing)
The Joe Harriott Quartet - S/T (Columbia, 1955 First 7" Pressing)
Kenny Baker - Date With The Dozen (Pye Nixa, 1958 First 7" Pressing)

The Ken Moule is a fantastic record that features Don Rendell, Ronnie Ross and Alan Ganley to name a few. This album is a perfect example of why Discogs prices shouldn't be taken as gospel. This has never been sold on Discogs so the price is 0 yet in reality, it has sold for over $100 on other sites. Luckily I got this for a fraction of that price. The Joe Harriott is another killer, killer, killer release and once again highlights the disparity between Discogs pricing and reality. Discogs shows this as £9.99 (sold once in 2018) yet Popsike shows it between $212 at the high end and $63 at the low. I just thought this disparity to be quite interesting. Finally, the seller that sent the Joe Harriott (another great price btw) also threw in the Kenny Baker, presumably for support.

The Compositions Of Duke Ellington - Volume 1 (Riverside Records, 1962 First Mono Pressing)
The Jack Wilson Quartet Featuring Roy Ayers – Ramblin' (Vault/Vocalion,1966 First UK Mono Pressing)

Finally, a couple of records that I ordered before Christmas. The Riverside compilation is part of a series that compiles compositions of key musicians that are performed by other musicians, with this one highlighting the work of Ellington. I love the cover art for them. The Jack Wilson is one that I have been hunting down ever since I heard the release of the stunning RSD Penthouse recordings from 2020.

One of the locals opened their storefront back up after a last winter storm damaged their structure. Runs a lot of indie stuff, so was happy to drop by and support. Grabbed a couple Coltrane's, Osees, and the Irreversible showed up finally also.

Shearwater - Palo Santo and Animal Joy
Damien Jurado - Maraqopa and Saint Bartlett
Irreversible Entanglements - Open the Gates
Osees - Levitation Sessions
Spoon - Gimme Fiction
Steve Gunn - Eyes On The Lines
John Coltrane - Crescent and Live at the Village Vanguard
Old Crow Medicine Show - Remedy

My local got in a decent collection, so had a raid. Not sure how good a condition these are going to be in, but worth a punt.

Television - Marquee Moon & Adventure
Patti Smith Group - Radio Ethiopia
Paul Simon - Graceland
The Cramps - Gravest Hits
Paul McCartney - Ram
Jethro Tull - Aqualung

The only frustrating part was the unpriced first pressing of the Suicide album that I had in my hand. The guy checked the price online and then threw a decent price on it. The last copy of it they had - sold it for $30. Damn you Popsike…
