We have a non-profit Music Hall in my town and they recently decided to turn some empty rooms upstairs into a used record shop. Every record is a donation, so the quality and titles vary GREATLY based on when you go in. Lots of Streisand, Dean Martin, Benny Goodman....the usual suspects. The rock stuff is organized alphabetically for the most part, but there's a whole room of new stuff or unorganized records. The guy running it definitely likes the more rock/folk stuff so the jazz goes a little untouched/is all priced at $2. Highest priced album I have seen so far has been $10 in the whole shop.

Been trying to swing by there every other week or so to see what they got in. Grabbed these today for $15 total.

Abdullah Ibrahim / Dollar Brand - The Journey
This was the one I was most excited about. It's an OG pressing in really good shape. It's a free jazz/ cape jazz record. Some great jazz musicians on it including Roy Brooks and Don Cherry.

Fantastic Mr. Fox read by Roald Dahl
Couldn't NOT pick this up for $2. Seems fairly valuable too. My wife is a big Roald Dahl fan so got it for her. Have no clue what he sounds like but should be a cool listen!

Chuck Berry - Back Home
Haven't heard this one before, but is real clean for $5 and I've been digging Chess Records lately.

Freddie Hubbard - Windjammer
I'm assuming this will be a cheesy one, but I love Freddie's playing.

Buddy Bregman And His Dance Band – Swingin' Standards
World Pacific mono pressing

A Josh White Program - Josh White
country/blues/folk comp of Josh White's songs

Donald Byrd & Bobby Jaspar – Cannes ‘58 (Sam Records, 2022 Wax Buyers Club Limited Pressing)

First up is the fantastic Wax Buyers edition of the latest Sam Records release. Cant wait to dig into this! The additional print is stunning and, in my opinion, even better than the other one.

Ken Moule - Cool Moule Arranges For ... (Decca, 1957 First Mono Pressing)
The Joe Harriott Quartet - S/T (Columbia, 1955 First 7" Pressing)
Kenny Baker - Date With The Dozen (Pye Nixa, 1958 First 7" Pressing)

The Ken Moule is a fantastic record that features Don Rendell, Ronnie Ross and Alan Ganley to name a few. This album is a perfect example of why Discogs prices shouldn't be taken as gospel. This has never been sold on Discogs so the price is 0 yet in reality, it has sold for over $100 on other sites. Luckily I got this for a fraction of that price. The Joe Harriott is another killer, killer, killer release and once again highlights the disparity between Discogs pricing and reality. Discogs shows this as £9.99 (sold once in 2018) yet Popsike shows it between $212 at the high end and $63 at the low. I just thought this disparity to be quite interesting. Finally, the seller that sent the Joe Harriott (another great price btw) also threw in the Kenny Baker, presumably for support.

The Compositions Of Duke Ellington - Volume 1 (Riverside Records, 1962 First Mono Pressing)
The Jack Wilson Quartet Featuring Roy Ayers – Ramblin' (Vault/Vocalion,1966 First UK Mono Pressing)

Finally, a couple of records that I ordered before Christmas. The Riverside compilation is part of a series that compiles compositions of key musicians that are performed by other musicians, with this one highlighting the work of Ellington. I love the cover art for them. The Jack Wilson is one that I have been hunting down ever since I heard the release of the stunning RSD Penthouse recordings from 2020.

ive got an original mono of the jack wilson side, but so jealous of the availability of European jazz and original European issues of some of these records....so many of them sound terrific as well

Today in "I catch up on albums from the past 30 years" I have discovered Godspeed You! Black Emperor and picked up F# A# ∞ to go along with yesterday's turntable upgrade. Holy crap how have I not heard this a) as a music lover and b) as a Canadian.

Going to definitely grab "Life Your Skinny Fists..." to go along with it.

Skinny Fists is a landmark but their first three releases are all perfect. Funnily, I've never heard the shorter vinyl version of F# A# ∞.

Also my favourite version of the recent Seinfeld meme I saw last night:

The CD and LP versions are both different too, so you can stretch your exploration. I have had some pretty transcendental moments with both.

Also an incredible live act.

Yeah, was shocked that the CD version is like double in length. The vinyl is definitely a nice package though.
You get a smashed penny what more do you need? Also, don’t sleep on last year’s G_d's Pee AT STATE'S END! It was a quality album.

100%. For a band that preformed a nearly 2 hour set without ever acknowledging the audience, we were completely mesmerized.

Allelujah! is by far my favourite since their reunion, but they're pretty consistently great. Last year's was fantastic for sure. Have tickets to see them in early May, really hoping it doesn't get cancelled.

Good mail day today.

Khruangbin remixes, Nils Frahm collab electronic album, a couple Miles Davis MOV pressings, Rueben Wilson Love Bug Blue Note Classics, and two albums from @Mack37 , The Meters MOV pressing and a Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream OG.

Nice Siamese Dream! I have the 2011 remaster but I prefer the original art though not enough to drop the serious coin that the OG demands.

I guess it's not a "true" OG. It's a black repress of the original, with an unknown pressing date (per Discogs), but close enough with the OG artwork! Definitely my favorite Pumpkins album. Always played loud.
