Fresh Grabs

It was a pretty good mail day.

Knocked out one of my grails. It's getting harder to track down a sealed copy for decent price. I waited too long to pull the trigger, but happy to finally have a copy.

dUuUuUuUuDe I managed to get one for $40 back in 2015 or 2016, and at first I thought it kinda sounded weird but now I think other copies of the album sound kinda weird. And I love the 30th Anniversary poster, always meant to hang it but never got around to it.

Haha! Well I hope that's not the case, but yeah, most of these are VMP.
I am a bit morbid but any time I find something like this at Goodwill my assumption is someone died and whomever was tidying up their estate didn’t know what to do with em so they ended up at Goodwill. I mean even at a record store you are probably gonna make around a $100 just off of what you purchased there.

I guess someone could be getting out of collecting and is super generous to donate them.

This must happen a lot where I live. Because every a few times a year there will all of a sudden be a ton of VMP pressings in the used bin at my local. I’ve gotten a lot of older Classics that way… RIP.

Your Record Store or Goodwill? I think people will sell off chunks of their collection for cash or credit to their local record store as VMP albums tend to do pretty good in the secondary market. Goodwill is strictly donation based. Most folks donate things to Goodwill don’t have much resale value. A stack of Jim Nabors record to Goodwill makes sense but someone donating over $100 worth of VMP albums is usually someone doesn’t understand what they have and what to do with it.

The Cool Britons - New Sounds From Olde England (Blue Note, 1954 First Mono 10" Pressing)
Victor Feldman - Session In London: “The Quartet” (Tempo, 1957 First 7" Pressing)

A mega acquisition this week. I first saw The Cool Britons several years ago online and started looking for a copy with no luck. It rarely pops up for sale and is a real rarity. Such a great session and one of the few on Blue Note with Brits as lead. Features Don Rendell, John Dankworth, Allan Ganley, etc. Plus, a cheapo Tempo 7" which is also fantastic.

John Coltrane – A Love Supreme (Impulse/His Master's Voice, 1965 First UK Stereo Pressing)
Anthony Williams – Life Time (Blue Note, 1964 First Mono Pressing)
Being Prez: The Life and Music of Lester Young by Dave Gelly (Equinox Publishing Ltd, 2007)
Justments by Bill Withers Classics Booklet

I always said that after getting a first US club pressing of A Love Supreme I would never upgrade or get another, but when I saw this first UK pressing I decided to go for it. Really looking forward to listening. I also lucked out on a copy of Anthony Williams Blue Note release which has been on my wantlist too. Plus a couple of books, Being Pres (a biography of Lester Young) on the great Equinox publisher's and the VMP Classics booklet for Bill Withers.

Wayne Shorter – Emanon (Blue Note, 2018 Box Set Pressing)

Here is another great find, I missed out when it first came out and the resale values went really high for a while. It dipped and plateaued a bit now and I was able to get it for quite a decent price, cheaper than the average anyway.

But how is that +'justments booklet though? Was it worth the wait?!!!

Impressive haul, as ever. That Wayne Shorter box is looking especially sexy!
