Fresh Grabs

Korea Girl? I ended up ordering from Juno in the UK and they shipped maybe 10 days ago. Amazon has it (listed a couple of days after I pre-ordered from Juno) still listed at July 26 for release date.
Ah, cool. Yeah, I had no idea when it was actually being released but thought I'd seen a few people with it already. Making sure I didn't need to reach out yet. Thanks!

Neil Ardley - A Symphony Of Amaranths (Regal Zonophone, 1972 First Factory Sample Pressing)
John Coltrane – A Love Supreme (Impulse/His Master's Voice, 1965 First UK Mono Pressing)
Vic Ash Quartet - Royal Festival Hall Modern Concert (Tempo Records, 1956 First 7" Pressing)

Some huge finds here. Crazily, this is the second factory sample pressing of Neil Ardley's "A Symphony Of Amaranths" that I have, although my other copy was missing the sleeve. I also have a few copies of A Love Supreme that I have acquired over the years including a first UK Stereo pressing, but when I also came across this mono pressing I just had to try it out. The sleeve looks a bit rough but the record cleaned up nicely. Finally, a Tempo 7" that I was missing.

The Bob Wilber Quintet - Evolution Of The Blues (Music Minus One, 1976 First Pressing)
Shorty Rogers Quintet - Wherever The Five Winds Blow (His Master's Voice, 1957 First UK Pressing)
The World Of Progressive Music - Wowie Zowie! (Decca, 1969 First Pressing)
Françoise Hardy - S/T (Disques Vogue, 1965 First South African Pressing)
Françoise Hardy - S/T (Disques Vogue, 1964 First UK Pressing)
The New Oscar Pettiford Sextet (Debut, 1959 First Danish Pressing)

The rest of the records came from a carboot trip this morning, all for £1 each (50p for the Pettiford). This lot represents the jazz pile with the addition of a couple of Françoise Hardy records. I hadn't heard of Hardy until her passing a few weeks ago but I lucked out on a record of hers at a carboot sale a few weeks ago and loved it, so bought these 2 when I came across them. The Bob Wilber Quintet is interesting as its from a label that specialised in "Play Along" records, with the booklet containing all the sheet music. I have a Mal Waldron from the label too.

The Rolling Stones - Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! (Decca, 1970 First South African Pressing)
Otis Redding - Pain In My Heart (ATCO Records, 1964 First Pressing)
Carole King - Music (Ode Records, 1971 First Pressing)
Lightnin' Hopkins, Brownie McGhee, Sonny Terry, Big Joe Williams - Big Joe Sonny Brownie Lightnin' (Saga Soc, 1966 First UK Pressing)
T-Bone Walker - The Blues Of T-Bone Walker (Music For Pleasure, 1965 First Pressing)

This is the rest of the carboot records, with a blues heavy tilt to it. The Otis Redding was a killer find especially as I paid a quid for each of these and turns out this one goes for £35 (Although the sleeve is worn). Cant wait to dig into them, the Carol King has just finished and its great!

Not many last month, though I unfortunately (and unnecessarily) broke my no-buy July with a lone purchase about two weeks ago.

July Acquisitions

Yu Su - Yellow River Blue
V/A - Alfa/Yen Records 1980 - 1987: Techno Pop And Other Electronic Adventures In Tokyo

20240801_170438.jpg

A 2021 release from Music From Memory, Yu Su weaves in and out of dub, house, and ambient full of influence from her homeland of China. Minor irk that the album art doesn't follow the white border format of the MFM. Still my favorite label.
Thank you for the Japanese techno-pop comp, @kvetcha! I was very happy to see that "好き好き大好き" by Jun Togawa (戸川純) in the tracklist, kind of a techno-pop horror cult classic from the 80s. But it's not just Togawa-san being the standout; Yellow Magic Orchestra and the entire YMO family comprise roughly half the tracklisting. Never saw this compilation in Japan (even though it is manufactured there, with a genuine sash OBI), but the quality is stellar.

Realized I made a mistake.

I did not receive kvetcha's PIF last month. That was received in June, though I did play it for the first time two days ago.

I did get this last month after a few months wait instead:

I recently sold off a bunch of records so of course I had to buy some stuff to replace em…

Neil Young - After The Gold Rush 50th Anniversary Box Set
Neil Young -
Harvest 50th Anniversary Box Set
The Beach Boys - Holland AP
Ween - Chocolate & Cheese

Jack White - No Name
The Smile - Don’t Get Me Started/The Slip 12”
Misfits - Earth A.D/Wolfs Blood

The Smile 12” is heading to @Crabbers . I am not a huge post White Stripes Jack White fan but the buzz at the record store along with the store clerks review was enough to pique my interest. The two Neil Young Box sets were initially way over priced but my local recently marked them down plus I had a 20% off punch card which made much more reasonable. Ween and Misfits are new reissues that I am happy to add to the collection.
