Gadzooks! Its the December Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread!

12/18 - Beavis and Butthead Do Christmas / South Park Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo: “Well Brian, if you want poop for Christmas, Santa Butthead would be happy to come by and take a dump under your tree”. Play one of the albums that is worth the least in your collection. Howdy ho, and lets see those gems!

The Smithereens "Green Thoughts" (1988 Enigma)
I eliminated all 7", 12" singles and EP's and according to Discogs, this is the album with the lowest median value currently in my collection. I'm also not evaluating everything for condition, because truthfully, there are probably specific copies in my collection worth less than this, as this is VG+ with very little background pops. Anyway, this is listed at US$5.56 median value. A really excellent record that hasn't been reissued by a very underrated band. Pat DiNizio was such a great power pop voice. Pressing sounds fantastic too.

Next in line, I have a 2LP 1972 compilation by Quebecois rocker Robert Charlebois (and that one is VG at best so likely really worth less than this Smithereens LP), a great copy of Arcadia's So Red The Rose, and an og of the 1969 soul compilation Abreast Of Soul. I don't regret any of these taking space in my shelves. All excellent inexpensive records I'm happy to have! Seems like my collection culling of the last few years was productive.

Oh man, this album is so freaking good! Only a Memory, House We Used to Live In and Drown in My Own Tears are true power pop classics.

Day 18: Beavis and Butthead Do Christmas / South Park Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo

Linda Clifford
- Let Me Be Your Woman

The standard edition of this album in America is 2 LPs while the Canadian pressing is one LP with half of the songs edited down to fit them on one disc, so it’s not hard to see why this isn’t such an in-demand record.

Ronnie Laws - Friends and Strangers

Can’t remember what cheap funk/jazz record I bought off Discogs but the seller threw this in for free and I like it more than the actual record I paid for.

Day 17: A Charlie Brown Christmas
Play it if you have it and let’s see what versions are out there.

Vince Guaraldi Trio - A Charlie Brown Christmas

A beautiful Christmas album but also I love when the music is used in some unconventional ways. Usually to evoke melancholy like in Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums or in Arrested Development though AD usually also got a good laugh out of it’s use as well.

12/20 - A Christmas Carol: The 1951 version of a Christmas Carol is widely considered the best adaptation. As this is the third version of this to show up on this list, play a Ghost of Christmas Future by someone you are looking forward to a future release from.

The Smile "A Light For Attracting Attention" (2022 XL Recordings)
Will be interesting to hear whether the 2024 album is as good as this one.

Jeff Rosenstock - Hellmode

I think after this album, one of 2023’s best; I am to the point that I would probably buy any of Rosenstock’s future releases without needing to listen to it first.

Rumor has it we will get a new album / tour announcement soon from these guys.

12/17 - A Charlie Brown Christmas: A good percentage of us own this release which seems to have reached Black Pumas levels of variants. Suspending the usual “play something unique” rule, play it if you have it and lets see what versions are out there. If you don’t have it, play a holiday favorite.

I do have a green version of the classic, but I decided to play this instead.

This gem came from @Russ I as part of a PIF. (The real PIF was Aja MOFI)
Anyway, this looks to fetch about $1.10 on the Cogs. But ya know, it's not so bad, aside from the spelling error.
