Gadzooks! Its the December Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread!

12/17 - A Charlie Brown Christmas: A good percentage of us own this release which seems to have reached Black Pumas levels of variants. Suspending the usual “play something unique” rule, play it if you have it and lets see what versions are out there. If you don’t have it, play a holiday favorite.

This is the version I have:

VMP pressing. Received this after Christmas despite pre-ordering it months before, if I recall correctly…

12/16 – It’s A Wonderful Life: This holiday favorite has an angel sent from heaven to show George Bailey how much he’s meant to others. Play something with bells or chimes, to help an angel get its wings.

I was just going to play the Tubular Bells album, but this release has enough Tubular Bells to satiate my listening - I don't need 2 sides of tubular bells...while iconic, Mike Oldfield has better albums.

The Soul-Saints Orchestra "Santa's Got A Bag Of Soul" (2005 Jazzman)
Here's a holiday favorite of mine.

The bells on Peter Piper are sampled from Bob James cover of Take Me To The Mardi Gras.

The turntables might wobble but they won't fall down.

Idris plays bells on the song "Thank You God" which is, I guess, what an angel would say when it gets its wings..

Looks like @Jan and I were on a similar page for today but with different variants!

I worked a Christmas season at Toys R Us about 20 years ago and the piped-in music they played for the store included A Charlie Brown Christmas and was on a 2-hour (max!) repeat cycle - which is fine for the average shopper, but the number of times I heard that particular Christmas music loop definitely did bad things to my head. I swore if I heard A Charlie Brown Christmas one more time that year I was going to murder someone! Fortunately, I didn't murder anyone... but I still have very little interest in listening to A Charlie Brown Christmas.

There are 100 different vinyl versions of this according to discogs. Mine has the lenticular print.

Discogs tells me I also have a reissue from 1987 - and while that sounds fine, since I've had this pressing I haven't really gone back to that one...

12/18 - Beavis and Butthead Do Christmas / South Park Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo: “Well Brian, if you want poop for Christmas, Santa Butthead would be happy to come by and take a dump under your tree”. Play one of the albums that is worth the least in your collection. Howdy ho, and lets see those gems!

Going by Discogs Median of 2.29€ this is the album least worth in my collection but it is actually a great album by american-born german singer-songwriter Dirk Darmstädter and his band. Kristofer Aström of Fireside and Solo fame sings harmonies on fred astaire and Martin Wenk from Calexico and Nada surf plays brass throughout the album

Those were a nice listen this morning! Thanks for sharing.

12/15 - My Little Pony – Hearth’s Warming Eve: This holiday episode focuses on the history of Equestria, and to quote @duke86fan is about “people not being assholes to one another and racial equality”. Play something designed to bring people together.

Nothing a good holiday party to bring people together.

I included our small xmas tree in the pic. Last year when the cats were new in the house we skipped it. This year we went small with minimal ornaments...so far so good.

Coming in at a median value of $1.69 (cue a beavis and butthead joke there), and my second spin of the monthly challenge to include a version of Muskrat Love is this slice of 70's heaven. Going right to the gatefold on this one as its so much better than the cover. Also including the video for Muskrat Love just to reinforce just how coked out the 70's were.

Day 17: A Charlie Brown Christmas

I actually have two pressings: the 2017 Craft reissue with the original sleeve on black vinyl, which I played last month (and @gafacaode played yesterday), and the 2014 red UO pressing with the reissue sleeve & bonus “Greensleeves” track which I’m bringing out of hibernation today.

I got this a few years before the Craft reissue, which has been my go-to pressing for the last 5 years.

12/19 - The Grinch: Play something that makes your heart grow three sizes.

Sogerman Emo/Indie-Band Pale originally startet in the 90s and split in 2009. In 2019 founding guitarist Christian was diagnosed with a brain tumor so the friends decided to get back together , spent as much time together as possible and even started recording a new albumbut had to to it without the founding member Stephan (and brother of the singer) who had to pass due to health issues. Unfortunately Christian died in 2021 but the band finished the album and included beautiful songs dedicated to both Christian ( Bigger than life) and Stephan ( Man of 20 lives) ""The Night, The Dawn And What Remains"" was one of my favourite albums of 2022. Although without Christian and Stephan they decided to bring the album to the stage one last time last year and the recording of this final night of celebration of the band and their lost members was just released as "Bigger than live" .It is a record of hope and beatuy and makes my heart grow three sizes
