Gadzooks! Its the December Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread!

12/8 - The Year Without a Santa Claus: My favorite part of this special is Heat Miser and Cold Miser, two brothers who are constantly at odds. Play something that focuses on Hot or Cold, however you want to define it. Or two brothers who are / have been at odds.

The Emperor Machine "Aimee Tallulah Is Hypnotized" (2004 DC Recordings)
I've enjoyed the Dr. Who Christmas specials. I haven't seen them all, but they're always a bunch of fun. This album by The Emperor Machine reminds me of Dr. Who music. The experimental electronics with the analogue synths, sci-fi sounds, freaky jazz-funk disco and krautrock elements take me right to the good doctor. This one is bigger on the inside and it appears.

12/9 – Bing Crosby’s Merrie Olde Christmas: Best known for the Bing Crosby / David Bowie duet of Peace On Earth / Little Drummer Boy. Play something that bridges generations.

If you need to shed a few tears, read a few of the comments on the linked video below.

12/10 – Scrooged: Bill Murray stars in this version of a Christmas Carol. Since this is the second appearance of this story, play a Ghost of Christmas Present, something by an artist you are hoping to find underneath the tree this year.

I'd be pretty happy if the Original Release Series containing the remastered version of this and Arc / Weld / Ragged Glory showed up under the tree this year.

There were a couple of holiday specials that didn't make the cut for this month. One was Doctor Who as @Turbo called out above. Another revolved around Die Hard and movies / shows that have some debate about them being a Christmas movie. And to that I'd say if Die Hard is a Christmas Movie, so is Gremlins - a traditional watch in my house every year in December.

I only have this one Kinks record on vinyl and keep meaning to add to that number. Maybe my wife is reading this over my shoulder and will get me a couple/few!

Since no one went with the low hanging fruit, I'll give this a spin.

I never expect any records or music related gifts from my family...they aren't into it to really know what I want or need. As an example, my mom gave me some of these last Christmas. I think I just threw them away...not really out of spite, but just that I would never have a reason to use them and keeping them just adds to the clutter I already have. I am glad she didn't spend all that much on them.

So any record under the tree would be a complete surprise. I do want the new Peter Gabriel album, but with the 2 different mixes he released of it I just don't know which one is "THE ONE" to get - and getting both on vinyl is a bit pricey...but the completist in my would need to have both.

I wouldn't be disappointed if Ol' Kris Kringle dropped the Acetone box set under ye olde tannenbaum...

12/12 – Santa and The Ice Cream Bunny: This MST3K / Rifftrax favorite is listed in Wikipedia as follows: “Atrocious acting, cheap production values and a meandering long running time have earned a fan following as one of the worst Christmas movies ever made”. Play something that would likely be made better with some strong egg nog, or something that helps you go to sleep.

Don't get me wrong, this album is great. But add in a little something extra and its even better. Two 20 minute tracks fit the long running time too.

Edited to add this quote from Wikipedia from a review for the album which fits the prompt quite nicely: Keith Carman, reviewing for Exclaim!, noted that only those with the patience for long songs or those in "altered states of consciousness" could tolerate the album, but described it as "quite the interesting celestial ride".[7]

Looking forward to seeing them play this album next month as part of the Casbah's 30th anniversary series here in San Diego.

I don't have any favorite holiday special. Also I'm more of a New Year's Eve kinda of guy.
Some champagne & reefer would be nice to celebrate the new year.

It’s a great german (post-) punk album but it could be augmented by a little Drink, as they themselves confirm in last song " Sauf, ne"

It kicks off alright with Rough Justice, but it certainly requires a few drinks to get anything close to a bang from this one.

I'll go a different direction on this prompt. A group of friends and I went to see JD at El Club in Detroit back in December of 2019, just a couple moths before, well, you know. So this album will always remind of that year and that show...good times.
