Hip Hop

So my two copies of Igor Special Edition got almost-delivered yesterday until I was told I need to pay $30 in customs fees. Somebody is paying that and it's definitely not me.. so for people who missed out - they may have copies available on their site again shortly.

damn! werent they charging 20bux in shipping too?

Also fuck Benny, DRW and Get On Down for reissuing a 2 month old record with a deluxe version and fuck all the jabronis who are supporting that bullshit.

I guess I don't understand why this bothers you? Benny is a lot more popular now than this time last year so there is definitely more demand for his work. Who cares if there is a reissue 2 months after release when the vinyl is sold out everywhere? Plus this includes instrumentals which is dope.

personally I don't have a problem with it. I am sure there are still people that want it on vinyl that can now get it. also I don't really care about the instrumentals (especially since it doesn't have all the instrumental tracks), and I prefer the original cover... so there's really nothing about me that had a problem with this

Yeah, eff everything about this. And the Golf Wang customer service is fucking terrible. I'm regretting almost every aspect of this.

I didn't have the money to grab alot of the Griselda stuff a few months back especially at the rate it all was coming. So I am a jabroni supporting this because I wanted one then and I'm glad I got one now!

Just wish it had the OG cover of course

So Mike Dean isn't doing the mixes and mastering? Maybe he got tired of trying to explain why his mixes were always so hot and crunchy sounding...

Fairly certain Dean is doing it, don’t know who else would entertain doing last minute work like this. Sounds like Consequence of all people just approved final mixes because Kanye went to sleep lol.

Dean’s recent value prop to folks like Kanye is that he mixes and masters, one stop shopping, flexible to make changes until the 13th hour. His mixes and masters are indeed horrible, goes way too far into the red and a a result sounds shitty and distorted on proper speakers. That said, none of Kanye’s albums have ever sounded that good in recording quality or mastering.

On the subject of Kanye, low expectations for this one. His religious-right inspired “conversion” seems to have come with a dose of shamming, GOP worship and judgy vibes. I will say I’m interested in the music as I feel like he’s been in a musical rut, with only heavy reliance on Kid Cudi shaking him out of it a bit last summer.

I’m sure there are plenty of places that mix and master though and would work with Ye...I wish someone else other than Mike Dean would either way.

I actually liked quite a few tracks on Ye. Also going into this with low expectations but am still curious to hear it.

Of course there are, but Dean does offer a unique value to Kanye, in that he clearly has no issues turning the knobs on Kanye's sloppy stems at 4AM under an insane timeline crunch. The use of Dean over a respected engineer is indicative of all the faults in Kanye's latest recordings, too many yes men, too little pros, too little time. I don't think any respected pro would have accepted a timeline that short. Dean's compression heavy aesthetic could also be appealing to Kanye, Scott and others he works with. Objectively it's wrong, and subjectively I hate it, and he seems to have had less time than ever so I really doubt this is going to sound good from an audiophile perspective. That said the earlier Kanye albums are poorly mastered and recorded but the Dean ones are just horrible.

I actually liked ye too. In fact I thought it was a smoother overall album than TLOP despite that one having better moments overall. I just feel like he hasn't pushed into any new musical territory, just playing it safe. KSG felt new to me but mostly due to the unique blend of him and Cudi.

Pretty sure it’s because this album originally cost $60 shipped and now you can get the same album for $20 cheaper with additional content. There was no mention of a later repress on initial drop. Previously these Griselda albums were never repressed so they were worth the exorbitant shipping price. Now you can’t trust that anymore. This is also the second time in less than 6 months this has happened with a Benny album.

So now, if I want the complete version of one of my favorite albums of the year I have to pay $100 whereas someone who “missed out” now gets the same thing I got and more for less money. I have no issue with people buying this. My issue is with the shadiness of the labels.

Y - the only one that I have any faith in is Daupe. They haven't repressed anything that I know of. I'm sure it will happen one day tho.

If it's a Tuff Kong release the plain black almost always makes it to other shops (HHV, Get on Down, FatBeats)
DRW is the worst imo. The shipping is exorbitant and the black vinyl ends up in HHV or Vinyl Digital at least
Fxck Rxp seems to be struggling and their stuff has shown up in FatBeats, HHV
Copenhagen Crates is pretty new and I haven't seen any issue - Yet
AirVinyls is 38 spesh's thing and I'm less than thrilled about the DRW style of doing business. Also AirVinyls is a dumb name
