Paid $1 to see J Cole some years ago. Went with a friend who liked him. He brought out Kendrick for a couple songs so I guess it was worth it.
I'm sorry man, I can't. I don't have the emotional bandwidth today. I don't know why debating this with you is upsetting to me today other than the fact that this is a place that I want to come to give my brain a break from the overwhelming exhaustion I'm feeling, at least this week. I'm sorry that I brought it up. You can judge that as a cop out if you want, but I can't handle the scope right now.@dhodo I'll try to break this down, so you can see what I meant by that. Something is being lost here, but that actually emphasizes HOW things are interpreted differently. I'll just quote your comment in sections and that will probably max out the character count, so I'll split this in two posts.
that's why I quoted the "not even" part, she wasn't emphasizing tweeting, she was emphasizing just doing something.I assume she means that Tweeting is the least that one can do. But I guess my issue with this is, what does she consider the productive path? By my deductive reasoning the only artist she can be referencing is Kendrick (perhaps J. Cole, but Kendrick makes a lot more sense to me).
Didn't realize that she wrote it so long ago and that she deleted it. And I'm just thinking now that her "Black plight" comment could have been anybody considering some of the values intrinsic in some hip-hop music and that I might be missing the mark with her target (which is why I deleted my comment). I do think there has been a lot of miscommunication. But I definitely don't think Cole's response was necessary.that's why I quoted the "not even" part, she wasn't emphasizing tweeting, she was emphasizing just doing something.
she wrote it on May 30th, so things may have changed with who she had in mind at the moment of tweeting.
she also deleted it shortly after people started theorizing on who she was calling out, possibly because individual call-out culture was not her intention, possibly she because she realized it might muddy her intentions- I only read it as frustration and anger at general inaction from those she wanted to see leading.
I dunno, I can't speak for her. the general speculation on a tweet leading to a song from a peer that is now leading to more speculation... seems like we are all missing the mark.
Getting your beef beat off of Madlib is an automatic victory imo.
