Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

Absolutely how I would do it, but she gets her way in the case (Calexico & Iron & Wine is also with Iron & Wine here)
I guess I should be happy that the wife is scared of the records... she fucking organized the kid's books by color. I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHERE ANY OF THE BOOKS ARE. My books are in different shelves from hers for the most part. I have no idea how she finds books.

also, thank god I have never felt the need to deep dive these guys. I don't even like the one Molina record i have (I do like the stuff I have streamed which is why I have the one I have). @Indymisanthrope lost a bet and gave me an Oldham comp that I love but never felt the need to deep dive him and I like the stuff I have heard from Callahan but have not felt the need to pick up his stuff.... also what psuedonyms does Callahan have?

I'll lose my mind if MC Taylor ever decides to use something besides HGM.
Smog or (smog) or smog or Bill Callahan. He isn’t that bad similar to The Oh See we’re it’s just multiple variations of the same name.

Will records under Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Palace, Palace Brothers, Palace Music, Will Oldham, plus he has recorded collaborative albums with Matt Sweeney, Dawn McCarthy, The Cairo Gang, Tortoise, The Trembling Bells, and Bill Callahan

Jason has released music under Songs: Ohia, Magnolia Electric Co. and Jason Molina he also released a collaboration with Will Johnson and to confuse matters more the last album he recorded under the Songs: Ohia moniker was entitled Magnolia Electric Co. which stylistically more similar to the albums he recorded under the moniker Magnolia Electric Co than what he released under the Songs: Ohia name. Also, you should really check out his Magnolia Electric Co. music because it’s deeply indebted to Neil Young in the best way possible. I would be shocked if you didn’t absolutely love love it.

I just thought of another on Phil Elverum that dude has recorded under The Microphones and Like Molina released a Microphones album entitled Mount Eerie but then change his projects name to Mount Eerie he also has released albums under his own name and under D+. And a handful other f other one off projects.

I used to have alphabetical, but I ran out of cubes and more than half my collection is in boxes/on the floor. Building more shelf space is my next project, but it's been on the back burner because of work. So at the moment I have cubes dedicated to certain artists (one cube+ for each: Dead, Young, Steven Wilson, King Gizzard, Santana), boxes for certain genres, and shelves in my record closet for boxsets, jazz, blues, soul/r&b.

He has a collab album with Bitchin Bajas, too. Plus, yoi should mention the Sweeney stuff is under Superwolves making things even worse

My Will Oldham stuff goes in the Drag City cube and some of the stuff in that cube isn't even on Drag City.

I've toyed with this idea for a long time. I already have my jazz, soundtracks, classical, world, hip-hop and various artist albums all separated.
But that still leaves country, rock and classic rock, pop, folk, soul, funk, blues, ambient, world and probably others I'm not thinking of. Seems daunting.

I love way too much shit that feels like it could belong in at least 2 different genres to be able to do this. I remember trying to do one of my hard drives by genre back in my torrenting days and it was an absolute nightmare!

My records are alphabetically discogs style. Except some artist groups are lumped into others for what i mostly know them for. My cds are loosely put together by genres/labels. I've been thinking of redoing my records by genre/labels as well
I can’t, too many records with too many cross genres. Also certain band releases albums spread across mutiple genres. If I were a KGALW stan I could have albums all over the place.

I have classical pulled out and sorted by composer but that feels like it makes sense because it’s so different in the way it’s composed and performed. And comps because, comps. Everything else is together and A-Z, by surname for solo. I’d really struggle to know how to categorise everything with genres and would find it harder to pull stuff out!

Pretty much the same here. Classical and comps are separate. And Sun Ra - but only because the Sun Ra stuff is on a bigger shelf (which is now out of room too), rather than eat up 3+ cubes
