Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

I disagree. I think this is only true in the beginning, perhaps even only the first season and a major theme of the rest of the show is how he could have gotten out and chooses "bad" over everything else in his life, over and over again. I think anyone who glorifies him, especially after the end of the show is fucked and missed the point. (Yes, I know there are plenty of people who do).

Maybe. I think he's portrayed as impotent throughout the series and portrayed as a savior in the end. Regardless I don't think you can separate the first season from the rest of the story

Oh, I'm not saying you can. I'm saying the fact that it progresses past the point of "needing" to do it is major shift in how relatable and glorified he is. I think you are supposed to be supportive and relate to his choices at first (even though that's still kinda nuts) and then lose all respect for him when it becomes clear it stopped being about anything righteous or moral a long time ago.

Not because I’m “institutionally racist” or whatever that means

Lol. Playing dumb about institutional racism. Noone suggested that the only reason people don't watch the wire is because of institutional racism - so ease up on the disingenuous b.s.
I know you know what that term means whether you want to believe that culture, governmental or otherwise, conditions people to be biased against people of color or not.

Get Out isn't a very good movie.

Key & Peele aren't that funny at all, period.

Edgar Wright is overrated... so is Villeneuve (sp?)

Mr. Show is the most important sketch comedy show of the last 40 years. Followed very closely by In Living Color.

I'm going to back @Clint Howard here a bit.

People who refuse to watch the Wire are probably institutionally racist...also those are the same people that when they do watch it they like Season 2 because they relate to the white people.

Breaking Bad is an excellent show too but yes some white people like it because they better relate to the character

Even if you don't want to watch the old ones (you should), HBO has so many good shows. It's pretty awesome now that you can add it to other services easily for like $10 a month (or get a password from a friend. You're missing out on some really great shows. But, there are plenty of good ones elsewhere too.
There’s far too much content out there to choose from. I’m going to choose the providers that allow me the widest access to the most varied content, or access to content I already have an investment in.

"Refuse"

Are you refusing or just lazy?

Playing dumb to not make a point?
Simply uninterested because of the source (HBO). You can classify that how you wish.

I wasn’t playing dumb. I know what institutional racism is, I just don’t understand your usage here. Institutional racism is institutional in nature. It’s right there in the word. An individual isn’t an institution and therefore an individual can’t be institutionally anything.

Culture is an institution and institutionalized, but I know you already know that.

I mean you are from "the South" right?

Why do HBO shows disinterest you if the cost isn't prohibitive?

I’m just trying to get you to stop hiding behind the “institutional” dodge and straight up call me a racist because I don’t care to put in the effort to watch The Wire. I don’t agree with @Clint Howard but at least he has the stones to be direct about his take.

As far as HBO, it really boils down to because my plate is already full enough with visual media. As shows that I watch come to an end, I have chosen not to replace them with new shows. The only show I actually keep up with at this point is Grey’s Anatomy because I’ve been watching it since the premier.

Most of the big zeitgeist shows just don’t interest me. I’ve only watched a few episodes of The Office with the wife, never seen an episode of Parks & Recreations, Stranger Things, Peaky Blinders, or The Sopranos. I quit watching OitNB after the second season, and I could go on.

TLDR: I really don’t give a shit about a lot of TV folks get really emotionally invested in, but to insinuate that I’m a racist because I can’t be bothered to watch a 20 year old TV show? You can fuck right off with that bullshit.

Defensive much?

I mean you started this whole b.s. because you didn't like that I said "people who refuse to watch the wire are probably racist" in reference to @Clint Howard 's post about people saying they would watch Breaking Bad but not the Wire.

What a joke? Why in the world would you think that comment was about you?

I didn't used to think you were racist but to take that line so personally and then passive aggressively cite it in your post makes me think that maybe you do have some things about yourself to consider

All I see is someone who took a post about some unknown to them "people" and interpreted it to be about their-self.... seriously WTF.

Hey guys, my The Wire / Breaking Bad thing was said more in reference to the old hot take about the beastie boys than to declare people racist for not liking it.. although I do still think part of that rings true.

But that's neither here nor there.. don't take this shit personally. These are all just our opinions and like assholes, we all have them and some of us (myself included) are some. But to get all bent out off shape cause other people don't like what you like or vice versa seems a bit absurd and not in the faith that this thread was started in.. so can we all just calm down a bit?

There you go again not understanding how to use words. My citing your own statement to counter your assertion that nobody was doing a thing was not passive aggressive, but direct in nature.

But hey, at least you decided to get more direct in your accusations. Accusations that I won’t waste time defending myself against because it’s a game that can’t be won. It’s almost impossible to prove a negative. I know who I am and what I’m about, so you keep doing you buddy. 👍 😆😆

Don't take this beef seriously.

Dude wants to stir up shit with the "liberals" because he is one of those folks that thinks "liberals" call everything that has to do with black folk racist.

It's a straight classic troll. First he tried to claim the term "institutional racism" didn't mean anything, then he tried to claim I was calling him racist because I used it.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Consider this your first warning, you two. Keep it civil. If you can't - take it to PM's.
