Hot Take/ Musical Confession Thread!

heres my hot take;

twenty years from now folks will still be discovering de la soul, tribe, etc. and nobody will be hoping post malone, lil uzi vert etc tour again. but those dudes will still most likely tour at your local hooters or shitty casino in tandem to make ends meet.

100% agree but I don't think that's a hot take at all?

You’ve found a few hundred sore spots in this thread...

Isn't that the point?

But why are you picking giants from then and chart minnows from now?

Because there is no doubt that in 2039 people will be discovering music from this decade!

Do I come across that way? I enjoy a lot of newer stuff but I also think most of the stuff out there is crap. Felt the same way 20 years ago too.

To a point. If does feel like you are a bit sharp of the mark to crap on modern hip hop for not being fhe stuff from the 80s/90s. That said it’s not my area at all so you may well be right...

Survivor bias.. nobody talks about most of the shitty groups from the 80s and 90s so I don't have to talk about how trash they are but you can see me rag on all sorts of 90s rap acts. My criticism is not based on eras at all.

Fair enough! I do sometimes think it’s unfair though to equate new/ok but kinda fun artists with the greats. I mean I enjoy loads of new artists but let’s face it they ain’t gunna be The Beatles so I don’t compare, I enjoy them for what they are...

Singles charts were usually about airplay I believe, so it’s not that different.

Not in the uk. There were two singles charts.

The official one was sales only and was the one people cared about. The NME started it in the 50s and the good old BBC broadcast it on a Sunday night. We all used to be glued to it taping songs off the radio.

The unofficial one was on commercial radio and they added in commercial radio plays. It was widely ignored.

This isnt a hot take, just you being upset. Also you're comparing legit hip hop artists to pop stars. Its apples and oranges.

Also Lil Uzi Vert rules

Wand put out a better Radiohead album (that’s the vibe I get) this year with “Laughing Matter” than Radiohead has in the last 19.

Also thanks @Woob_woob for the rec.
I'd say 16 years since I love Hail to The Thief, but yea that Wand album rules and gives off heavy "if Radiohead never went the Kid A route" vibes.

Glad you like it. Go see them live if you get a chance, they rip.

Yes! I gave it a listen a few days ago, and loved it. Thanks for passing that on. As far as Radiohead comparisons, I'd put it on the same level as A Moon Shaped Pool (which is better than in rainbows).
