Uh where's Vs?
I said "Go" which is the 1st track on Vs. (I fixed it)
In my defense...these were late night posts...which is really no defense at all.
Really, I'm just an idiot.

I can see people thinking their a bit open, but they seem to be able to make songs about serious issues that aren't cringey as hell like alot of other bands (SUBLIME)
Well yeah but then sublime are shit on so many levels that you’ve just scored into an open goal!
But I'm focusing on a specific point. They wanted to have some songs that were "real" and spoke openly about heavy issues and they all come across very sophomoric and cringey.
So I guess this has the makings of being a "Marie DeSalle/Baby I Love Your Way" moment...
Absolutely. It's especially annoying in the streaming age where they're not delineated as bonus tracks necessarily. If I'm checking something out for the first time, I don't want to hear a rough demo of track three or a B-side immediately after the actual closing track.
I was talking about Pearl Jam, not Sublime.
Pearl Jam had 1 good album a handful of decent singles scattered over almost thirty years. The majority of their career has been me eye rolling at Eddie Vedder’s sermons dressed up as boring songs.Yep. My bad. Fixed it.
Don't want to confuse people by mixing in a totally bat-shit thought into a more sublime discussion (see what I did there?)
I don’t remember it that way. I feel like it was fairly critically lauded from the jump. I remember lots of folks wondering if he sampled Marilyn Manson’s “Beautiful People” for “Black Skinhead” but the don’t recall any of the review sites I followed regularly (Pitchfork/Spin/A.V. Club) really poo-pooing the album.I remember when Yeezus came out and most people & critics said the album was bad with one or two good songs. Then when end of the year lists came out the same people said it was "brilliant" and "a classic" and if you don't like it that "you just dont get it".

I was in high school when Ten came out. That’s what I would call their one good album. There were a handful of singles off the next few albums that were good. Their cover of "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" was competent. Everything else just reads as background noise to me. It pains me that the least interesting of the grunge bands is the one still chugging along. Literally everyone else in that scene was more interesting to listen to.I'm not saying your opinion is Bat shit, that was clearly a joke.
Nor am I saying that you HAVE to like PJ or your opinions are dead to me (I reserve that for other acts...)
But "Boring"?
Whipping? Habit? Spin The Black Circle? Lukin? Blood? The whole PJ as backing band for Neil Young on Mirror Ball?
If you were in college during the same time I was, maybe the ubiquity of Ten on this side of the pond renders them overexposed so I wont include those even though there are those that we could argue break the "boring" label (Porch, Black, Release, Garden, Ocean).
But, I think BORING is unfair.
That adjective should be saved for...say...Doves?

I’ve never listened to Doves. This board has convinced me not to bother.
Yes. Even after they got really preachy, they still remained kinda fun. I definitely prefer their pre American Idiot output though.Ah...so Green Day is more in your wheelhouse?

Green Day was actually playing while I was typing that response.
This thread always makes me ponder the age/exposure context of those voicing certain opinions.

Untrue. AIC is "still chugging along"...albeit with a new lead singer. It pains me that the least interesting of the grunge bands is the one still chugging along.
I’ve seen them with and without Layne. Jerry Cantrell is chugging along under the AiC name, but AiC isn’t. The interplay (and tension) between Layne and Jerry was where the creative magic was.Untrue. AIC is "still chugging along"...albeit with a new lead singer.
I agree that no one will ever replace Layne Staley, however William DuVall has done a terrific job of filling in and allowing the band to carry on.I’ve seen them with and without Layne. It’s like the Grateful Dead without Jerry or Journey without Steve. It’s just not the same thing
And it's not going very well from what I've heardUntrue. AIC is "still chugging along"...albeit with a new lead singer.
Please tell me what did you hear? And it's not going very well from what I've heard
Their albums are critically acclaimed and selling well. Only thing missing is with Layne they would be playing stadiums not large clubs. And it's not going very well from what I've heard
