Immerse Your Soul In Love - The Radiohead Thread

Saw this email from Waste this morning.

We are also excited to announce** a launch concert - actually 3 different concerts in 15 hours, streamed live across 3 time zones from London, so people outside the UK can see us play at sensible times.

This means us playing at non-sensible times, which are, in Greenwich Mean Time:

Saturday January 29th at 8pm
Sunday January 30th at 1am
Sunday January 30th at 11am

Each show will be a little different - I mean, they’re bound to be - and we’re building a special venue inside another venue - at a place called Magazine in London.

This means that, as well as the livestream, there will also be a real concert in a real venue.

Tickets for the livestream of your choice are available now via pre-sale HERE at a discounted W.A.S.T.E price until the 9am general sale this Friday: unlock at checkout with the promo code SMILESTREAM

Tickets to attend the London concerts in person go on sale HERE on Friday 7th January at 9am GMT. There will be a pre-sale happening for those who join up to The Smile mailing list by tomorrow 12pm GMT - make sure you're signed up to the list via the box at the bottom of our website. All concert goers will also receive the corresponding livestream link to their show.

(I wanted to somehow favour passport holders from e.g. Japan / Australia / Brazil / The US etc. so that expats who live in the UK get early access to tickets to ’their’ concert, but maybe that’s too complicated. Or just a bit weird. We’re still talking about this….)

Still, that explains the idea - 3 small shows, 3 time zones, and 3 very sleepy musicians (the songs will all be slower on Sunday morning).

If you can’t come to the venue, you can see all three shows online (and on demand for 48 hours after) - but please note - it’s live. Live live. So, restarting songs / falling over / getting lost - all possible. Some enjoyable tension, then, as well as the music.

Paul Dugdale - who filmed our Glastonbury set - will be directing/looking for our good sides (none). Andi Watson has designed a stage for the shows.

We are very keen/scared/proud for you to hear these songs, and are currently practicing in a small room in Oxford, where work is more fun than fun, like the man said.

Our regards to you and yours,

From

Jonny

Has anyone in the US received or gotten any type of shipping update/notification recently for the Scarry Book or hardback art catalogue book or the other goodies from the WASTE site? I think the only thing I've received so far is the Fear Stalks the Land book.

I got mine in Canada about a month ago, but I ordered from the UK site. Not really helpful, I know. But hey, NA baby 😀

Alright, as someone who has listened to maybe three or four Radiohead songs in my life, any suggestions on where I should start album wise?

Been on a 90s kick recently and Radiohead is the one band I've always wanted to get into but never really gave 'em the chance. Decided I'm going to go through their discography, wondering if I should just start from the beginning or elsewhere.

Or maybe I should start by reading Steven Hyden's This Isn't Happening? ;)

Any advice is appreciated!

I'd recommend starting at the beginning, but you can start with The Bends or OK computer if you want that 90's stuff. Pablo Honey is more rock-ish than later efforts. I'd also recommend starting with In Rainbows, if you want to grasp full Radiohead(rock-electronic-weird stuff) and not bother with the discography.

Yeah I’d agree. The Bends is where to start from an accessible/rock point. I think I’d just go through their discography in order from then, just because their twists and turns make for an enjoyable journey, well at least I thought it was enjoyable in real time…

Start at The Bends. That's where it started for me 25 years ago. First song that hooked me was Black Star. It's been a great run of albums since.

Looking at some pressings - is it even worth trying to find a good copy of Kid Amnesia? Or should I try and track down the individual 2xLP releases from a few years back?

I'd say grab it. The pressing is not as bad as some reviews online say. I've had two different copies(black and red) and waiting on the Scarry book, those sounded great I think. Didn't notice anything that ruined the albums for me. 🤷

The Amnesia 2x45RPM that was pressed a while back sound great too! I love that one. I think all the XL represses sound good.

I got my Kid Amnesia from the band's site and reached out about the distortion on the first disc, and got this reply:

Hello LeSamourai

Thank you for your email. Please accept my apologies for the delay in getting back to you. We are experiencing a far higher than normal volume of queries at this very busy and challenging time.

I am very sorry to hear that your Kid A vinyl is faulty.

We are hoping to receive replacement stock early this year and once this has been received, we will arrange for a replacement to be sent out to you.

Once again apologies for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience.

Kind regards,

Louise, on behalf of the Customer Service team
