Incoming! The New Equipment Thread

The 590 is 30w Class A with another 70+ in reserve Class A/B. The L550 is either 20 or 25w Class A with A/B reserve. I can’t remember which one. Neither the 550 in my old room, or the 590 in the new larger room, have had any issue driving my Harbeth C7’s.

In case you actually meant the class A/B L-509x or z, it’s 120/220 WPF 4/8 Ohm rated. It measures well above that though in testing.
My question, poorly posited, was in regards to the class A spec. So many variables in spec amp power but, in this case to me, class A rating shows the real guts of an amplifier advertised as class A.

Since I started this thread I figured I’d add to it even though it’s a bit redundant with my journey thread. Sorry if it’s annoying. lol.

Luxman L590axII arrived today. I’ve had it running for a few hours now and it’s all I thought it would be. Happy day. View attachment 230350View attachment 230351

Is that how Luxman describes this amp in its advertising, as class AB?
I'm aware of the marketing; I'm describing the engineering. The issue is that Class A amplifiers by design have no "reserve". To exceed its 30-watt rating substantially, something else must be going on other than pure Class A operation. "Predominant Class A operation" does not sound as good in ad copy.

Per HiFi News, "Luxman says the L-590AX MKll is a pure Class A design - although this isn't strictly accurate. lnstead it is Class A up to 30 watts from where it moves into Class B to give a quoted peak power performance of some 160 watts".

In my view, this makes a much more attractive integrated amplifier than one that maxes out at 30 watts.

It's not attached, I just put some of those silicone insulation pads on it, 4 on the edges and 2 in the middle, The weight of the receiver and turntable keep it pinned down. No chance to move and I've tried. The pain was no 15 inch wide boards at Lowes in my budget. I ended up buying 2 12 x 72 pine boards and ripping one gorilla glue together. Wish I had not used a gloss Polly stain. The Zu's are flat and I think that would have made for a better match.
