It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

Arsenal have been very lucky so far with calls going in their favor. It should even out over the course of the season. Like, it shouldn’t have to “even out”, refs should just make the right calls every time. But they haven’t and they don’t. So they’ll get some go against them unfairly like everyone seems to get in the PL.

As someone who has watched every match, this was the evening out...Saka has been fouled a ton in the box and gets no calls, Jesus plays a heavy game and gets it back from defenders tenfold. People try to say he goes down easy but he's like a bull in a china shop at that end. We get called on every penalty we commit. Gabriel has given up like 3 already. Not like we are out here getting a pass

First it was injuries that were inevitably going to be our demise...Now it is the refs lol It's hard being at the top

Side note: First penalty of the year for us.

If that were a true penalty there would be an hour dedicated to every training session of attacking mids and forwards practicing sniping shots at defenders arms from close distance

I think people forget they changed the rules.

He was half a yard from the ball...Nothing can be done about it

Unless you’re the attacker and your hands are down by your sides in a totally natural position seemingly.

With that Martinelli one above that’s an absolute bastard for a referee to call at full speed and if VAR intervenes with every call life that outside of the box we’d still be playing the game now a day later.

Refs are flawed but they don’t set out to throw games, even when they have a stinker they get the majority right. Personally I’d rather sack off VAR and go back to the old way.

Also the most scandalous miss in yesterdays game was Tsimikas not being sent off for elbowing Jesus in the face. I don’t think there was even a yellow and it wasn’t clever.
Martinelli also had his studs into TAA’s ankle which wasn’t checked or carded or anything. The officiating is just randomly awful

The elbow one really surprises me though. There’s been a really taboo against elbows since Fashanu rearranged Mabbut’s face back in the 90s. It and going over the ball in a sliding tackle are pretty much the only two “instant reds”. To see one that bad go unpunished is sobering.

Liverpool did look like trying to rough up Arsenal was a part of their game plan last night. Nothing wrong with that per se, we used the same tactic for years against Wenger, fight to then earn the right to play, but it can skate a thin line and that definitely stepped over it.

Yea this is what I was saying before....he comes in hot in such tight areas, gets beat up more often than not, goes down and play continues...Partially on Jesus for being a bull in a china shop like I said but at the same time alot goes uncalled against him so for a penalty to finally be given and this be the result is funny
