It Could Get A Bit Messi In Here - The Football Thread.

It's happened! ITFC bought out. Taken over by an American investment group who have involvement in Phoenix Rising FC from Arizona.
In all fairness to outgoing owner Marcu Evan's it's not like he didnt invest. Just a bunch of managers hired who were past their prime.
Apparently the new ownership group are funded primarily by Arizona state pension funds. Let's hope Ipswich start climbing the leagues and give a good roi.
My optimism today makes me tearful, a return to the Premiership is the goal of course, Wolves and Leeds have done it.
Why not Ipswich? COYB!

If that’s a foul worthy of disallowing a goal then wow, just wow! That’s the most incensed I’ve been about a a shocker of a decision in a long long time. Once more, fuck VAR.

VAR has had quite the weekend on destroying the enjoyment of the game. The EPL has to amend the offside rule in some way or only allow VAR in certain circumstances. When you're disallowing goals due to fractions of inches or looking at buildup fouls that were missed, that shouldn't be what the system is set up for. Clear and obvious is not the case when we're talking an elbow of the offensive player versus the fingertips of the defender. I don't know if it's gotten worse since there's no supporters present but I have to think there's less going to VAR if you have 50,000+ home supporters booing the refs repeatedly for stopping down the action.

How this is clearly offside, I don't know. In major league baseball, the ruling on both a runner stepping on the base and the ball hitting the baseman's glove at the same time is tie goes to the runner. Maybe the EPL needs to adopt that policy. Tie goes to the offensive player and the goal stands.

I think the rule needs to switch. The benefit is supposed to be with the attacker and that’s gone. They should change from it any part of the player that can score is offside to if any part of the player is onside. That said it’s a factual decision and if they want to be that anal about it that’s their prerogative.

The one today really worries me though. How both VAR and the referee can deem that foul is just beyond my comprehension to the point that you wonder what even is the point. There were two other very similar hand off style incidents earlier in the match, one for each team, both with actual proper contact, and neither were even given as fouls.

What a stupid stupid stupid decision by whomever decides these things to have the USWNT v France on at the SAME EXACT TIME as the Champions Leagues games today.

Go USWNT.

And go.... PSG. Sure, let's go with that.

USWNT balled out and PSG squeaked one out!!!

Now if Liverwurst can lose today it'll be a great week!!! :) 😎
All signs point to a loss. They sure haven't been playing well lately.

I can not repeat this enough: Alex Morgan had a baby less than a year ago. And she is out on that field showing everyone how to play the game. She was responsible for the pk by Rapinoe and scored her own goal. With Charlie on the sideline.

Yea I watched the match vs. Sweden Saturday and they didn't look like themselves at all. We shall see what happens!!

Roy Keane’s insta never fails to make me laugh. It’s so self aware that you’d almost think it’s a parody account!

Tuchel is a very good manager. Absolute night and day differences between him and Lampard. I think PSG binned him off too soon, but Poch is obviously a good replacement. I also worry Chelsea are going to have a run at the title next season if Tuchel gets Werner and Havertz firing.

I think they’re still a world class number 9 away from a title challenge but yeah there’s been a definite forward step so far.

I’m jealous how well he’s mostly fixed their issues. I don’t rate Werner but I do think he’ll turn it around. They won’t end up with Haaland, maybe they’ll pick up Aguero for a season or two to rotate with Tammy and Giroud if he stays. I think that would be a good mix for them.

If we sacked the dinosaur at the same time and brought in someone new maybe it would have been a little different. I just hate how for Spurs it feels like we’ve been relegated and it’s just counting down the games until the end of the season. Have absolutely no clue why the sacking has been delayed. We could have gotten our shit together like Chelsea but nope.

Werner is dangerous with his pace but he’s not a centre forward. If they continue to go 3-4-3 he’s an excellent option on the left in rotation with Pulisic who is brilliant but seemingly heavily injury prone. I think Tuchel has decided already that Abraham isn’t good enough, I’d be shocked if he wasn’t bombed out this summer. They really do need to be going for that X Factor A list striker and throwing all of Roman’s ill gotten gains at it, it’s what they’re crying out for.

With Spurs I think it’s easier to go on blaming Mourinho until the end of the season. He’s an easy scapegoat, albeit one that deserves it. Those central defenders and large chunks of that central midfield are sadly for you going to go on being a huge issue for your next manager. With a season and a third without matchday income on top of that stadium debt and Levy’s parsimony I can’t see there being tonnes of cash to solve it either. Do you sell your one big sellable asset to fund a rebuild? That would be a huge call. I’m also not that sure who from the A list is going to Spurs either.
