Mike Watt does have a photography book he released, but I'm choosing this as I just finished the Minutemen chapter of this book last night. Really gets into the passion and drive that fueled them.

I think I own at least one album from each band featured except for Big Black (which I need to rectify). The most bonkers chapter is (understandably) the one about The Butthole Surfers. They were crazy. There is also a chapter in The Beastie Boys Book about the Butthole Surfers saving them from getting jumped after a show in NYC by the Beasties jumping into the Butthole Surfers car. I now assume it’s the insane touring car they describe in Our Band Could Be Your Life. It’s funny how all these things fit together.

It’s Saturday! As some of you may know I love football (for my American friends not the NFL stuff). Play an album that’s full of great terrace sing alongs

Antibalas' Afro Beat Orchestra "Liberation Afro Beat Vol. 1" - clearly I understand the prompt! What could be better at a football match than an Afro Beat band playing along the whole time? It's all a build up to a vocal explosion that everybody on stage is singing along or chanting along, it's usually a statement over and over again... probably not about sports unless it's about corruption in sports maybe, nevermind....

The Weakerthans - Reconstruction Site

Turning to my CD collection and @avecigrec's recent N&G AoTM selection. I don't know the first thing about football songs or sing-alongs but to localize this, I have heard "One Great City" played at a Toronto Maple Leafs game when hosting the Jets:

"The Guess Who sucked /
the Jets were lousy anyway"

[when this song was released, the Jets had relocated to Phoenix and Winnipeg didn't have an NHL team again till the early 2010s]

and the refrain

"I hate Winnipeg."

Fatboy Slim is a 12% owner of the Briighton football club. I'd imagine his songs get used quite a bit at their games.
