January 2023 Spinning Challenge: Welcome To 2023

Day 19: Readers & Writers
Play an album, or an album by an artist, with literary aspirations.

Jeff Tweedy - Warm

I got Jeff Tweedy’s memoir Let’s Go (So We Can Get Back) for Christmas a few years ago and it surprised me how funny it was and how it really captured what it’s like to love music with every ounce of yourself. I don’t think I’ve ever finished a book that quickly before

Day 21: Football
It’s Saturday! As some of you may know I love football (for my American friends not the NFL stuff). Play an album that’s full of great terrace sing alongs.

No terrace sing alongs, but 2 songs about football!
"Ponta de lança africano" about a mythical African striker and "Camisa 10 da Gávea" about Zico.

Tererê, tererê, tererê, homem gol!

Day 22: Road Trip Music
Play a great driving album.

Bill Withers - Greatest Hits

Most of my recent road trips have been to wine country from SF, an approx 90 minute drive. So I like to play some music that's familiar to everyone else in the car and some specific songs (Lovely Day!) that puts everyone in a good mood. Bill Withers is just the man for the job.

Day 22: Road Trip Music
Play a great driving album.

Pearl Jam - Yield

This one’s my favorite Pearl Jam record and it’s got a nice variety of tracks that can help accompany a road trip. There’s even a road on the cover! “Do The Evolution” is such a great song and could even possibly be liked by people who aren’t into Pearl Jam

Day 22: Road Trip Music
Play a great driving album.

I road tripped from Portland to Denver and back, and back again, in a week once. I had heard the song A Hair on the Head of John the Baptist on the college radio station in Boulder and immediately went and got this album before getting back on the road. I listened to it at least a dozen times on that trip. I like to think on the road and when I'm not listening to music that complements my thoughts, I'm often finding bat shit stuff on talk radio which is an insane experience, especially on some local am stations that you pick up in the middle of nowhere.

Play a great driving album.

Hypnosonics – Someone Stole My Shoes: Beyond The Q Division Sessions

Caveat: I've never actually listened to this while driving. But the amount of Morphine and Soul Coughing I've listened to while driving over the years tells me that this would be something I would absolutely love driving to. And I have nothing to spin by the other two instead.

Day 22: Road Trip Music
Play a great driving album.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. One of the great things about Neil Young is his ability to craft long songs that keep you totally in the moment, to the point that the song ends and you immediately want to play it again to experience it again. Live extended versions of Cowgirl in the Sand totally hit that mark for me. Combine it with an extended Down by The River, the road will just fly by.

Not real sure why I popped in here this afternoon, but this caught my eye and I love it! Thanks!
