Day 19: Readers & Writers
Idlewild - The Remote Part

Idlewild, and in particular the singer Roddy, have never shied away from their literary pretentions. The band took their name from Anne of Green Gables.

For the last track of this album the band had Scottish Poet Edwin Morgan pen a piece which he delivered a spoken word performance of over the outro to the last track. The pre album promotional tour, which i went to, had a stage backdrop that red “Support Your Local Poet”.

The days theme is also taken from the name from one of the lead singles from their later album Post Electric Blues.

The Cure - Wish

Quite possibly the most lighthearted album by the Cure? Featuring bouncy tracks like Friday I'm In Love, High, and Doing the Unstuck, Wish was a complete 180 from the ever so moody Disintegration.

Brave New Waves session - Jale
I wish these ladies (and one gent if I remember right) would have lasted longer that the couple years they played in the 90s. They were one of a few great women fronted rock bands in the 90s that deserved so much more attention than they got. I miss this sound, and hope it makes more of a resurgence again. Probably a bit more rockin' but it fills me with a care free vibe because of the time of my life I associate with getting into this kind of music.

Grateful Dead - In The Dark

Touch of Grey is perhaps the "hookiest" song the Dead ever wrote. It's super catchy and thanks to a great video that was all over MTV it introduced the band to a new generation of fans in the late 80's.
