Play me an album by one of the best live artists you have seen.

Howard Jones - Live in Japan

(apologies to @Joe Mac for jumping in midstream, it's been a week. I'll go back and start from Day 1 tomorrow)

Howard Jones was one of my earliest concerts - Nov 1985 with Marshall Crenshaw opening. I've probably seen him 12-15 times now (he loves playing the Bay Area) and have seen him in every size venue imaginable. He is SO talented and always puts on a good show...this album is a recent release from a Tokyo show in 1984 and sounds great!

HttT tour was definitely an all-time top five show. Blossom Music Center; orchestra pit, made it to like third row by first encore. Now that I think about it, that one might have been my best overall concert experience...

Day 1: Happy New Year
Raise a wee dram to see in the new year and pick a great album to accompany it.

Billy Joel - The Stranger

Happy new year! This album plays like a greatest hits album and is the one that launched Billy Joel to superstardom.

I'm going to pair it with a wee bit of Humboldt Distillery blended whiskey that my mom gifted me for Christmas.

Local H - As Good As Dead

Ive probably seen them live more than any other band. It helps they used to always play multiple shows in Milwaukee every year back in the 00's, and I've seen every incarnation of a drummer they've had. They come out for their shows with an insane amount of energy for a 2-piece, and is always a good time. Unfortunately I missed their NYE show here, but last saw them about 4 years ago where they were still able to match that same energy from when I first saw them like 25 years ago.

I got to know Scott and Joe when they were touring on Ham Fisted. Recorded some shows, sent them some tapes but sadly fell out of touch after the late 90s.

When they'd swing thru my neck of the woods, I'd always ask them to play Cynic. They always would, but they'd always protest a little bit telling me how that song was absolutely draining and wore them out.

Day 4: Lyrics
Play an album in which the lyrics really speak to you.

Snotty Nose Rez Kids – Trapline

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think these cats are making some of the most important music in this region right now and this, their third album, really marked an important turning point in terms of production value and the reach their voices were beginning to carry. It is both celebration and a call to arms, shining light and both the tribulations and joy of contemporary Indigeneity. They are unabashed in their love for and influence from classic and contemporary hip hop often twisting up snippets of recognizable hooks and lyrics into their own decolonial narrative. Their lyrics don't speak to my own experiences but between their wordplay and the content they certainly do speak to me. My CD copy of this has been getting regular play in my car again for the past couple of weeks, and I'm still streaming their newest one (my #3 album of 2022) quite frequently to tide me over until the vinyl arrives (and I somewhat regret not also getting the CD for my car!)

Dave Matthews Band - The Gorge

Even if you didn’t like Dave Matthews, you still drove out to the Gorge every summer to see them play (die-hard fans went all three nights and stayed at the amphitheater’s campground, I was content with just going on the Saturday). I’m convinced you can see me in the crowd on the DVD that’s included in this set as the camera swooped over our heads.

I thought I was all caught up on this thread from last night so when I checked it out just now, I thought "Damn, nice, @tvham is having the breakfast of champions!"
